Can SVTs really be found easily for $500 running and driving?

So there is this guy insisting he buys running, driving Focus SVTs constantly for $500 except we've been looking for months and have yet to see one this cheap. The best deal we saw was $800 and it was running and driving BUT had a font end crash with clear damage to the hood, bumper, fender, core support and front frame.

To give some background we have a currently non-running (but fully caged for racing) SVT FS on some venues with BC Coilovers and 51k miles on the engine and trans and to be told it's not worth more than $500 as-is has me thinking its time to part it out as the BC Coilovers alone go for $1000 new. ...just not wanting to part out another car if possible :(

Anyway, our thought is if a running, driving SVT is readily available for $500, we would buy that to take on this race car project we acquired now in summer while we can use our garage space for the project and then junk the $500 (probably rusted to hell) shell after we take what we need/want to complete the race car project.

...so all of you well informed 02-04 SVT enthusiasts, what say you?

I just picked up a non runner for $500.The guy was asking 1000. Looks like they put a head on it but didn't run it long before it stopped running due to broken vacuum lines.I bought a running SVT last year for 400 to rob the rear subframe and brakes and bumper cover for my 06 ZX3. Craigslist would be your best bet

'Possible?' sure but don't expect any $500 car to be ready for a coast to coast drive.

^ that's the next challange is finding something local-ish for $500... I've been looking for 4 months already and have yet to see one on any craigslist or FB marketplace ad unfortunately (not even close and many saying FIRM and typically what seems like outrageous prices). ... like who in their right mind is going to pay $6000 for an SVT with 256k miles on the chassis? Prices just seem all over the place!

I think you are approaching this wrong and I'm not sure what you are looking for a shell or a good engine?

We have a caged roller that has a 51k mile engine and trans in it but there are missing pieces.. It seems finding a running/driving car on the cheap and taking the pieces and parts we need (along with having a guide to know what goes where) is the best way to get it operational again if we want to keep the car (or get it running to be able to get more $$ selling it as a turnkey race car).

What we have is rust free but missing pieces that seem to add up fast (misc brackets along with bigger items like SVT exhaust header for example)

Still just trying to decide what to do with this project we acquired back in March and have not gotten very far (the lack of knowledge factor dictated that a running driving car for a visual guide and able to steal parts we need seemed like the solution)

^ still on the 'just sell it side of it all' but wishy-washy I guess

Google Ford Focus SVT salvage. There are 2 that I see. One in California and 1 in Virginia. I don't know where you are located but the supply of SVT parts and available cars is dwindling rapidly. Many SVT cars are available in the 2000 range. Depending on what is missing you may be able to use ZX3 Zetec parts instead. Plenty of pictures on the internet to help you figure out what is missing and Ebay has many SVT parts if you know specifically what you are looking for. I keep my eyes peeled for deals.

Thanks guys. Location is indeed part of the issue.. We already drove 6 hours and 3 states away to get this car in the 1st place. We are in the Chicagoland area. I was honestly hoping to find a rusted to crap (but still driving) SVT locally for $500 but it seems impossible
