E-Brake Help

I'm having wierd trouble with my E-Brake. When I got the car (10k miles ago) the cables were rusty and seized. I put new cables on. It does work, but you have to pull the lever with at least 4-5x the strength it takes on my friends svt. I checked the calipers. The places where the cables attach can be moved by hand, so I know the new cable and the calipers are fine. I even removed the handbrake comepletely to feel if it was bad, but it is in perfect shape and ratchets cleanly and very smooth. Could it be the cable that attaches the handle to the cables under the car? Many times when the handle is moved down, it doesn't disengage the brakes unless you push down on threads where it is attached to the handle, so I've had to keep the boot off. Any advice appreciated.

Cables were replaced in August. Even with the new cables, it was hard to pull.

adjust the slack in the cable with the nut on the side of the ebrake handle. you may have too much tension in that adjuster.

Wasn't the issue. I reset the rear calipers. Right side twisted in with ease, left took everything I had to get it back in. That side hangs up when parking brake is released and gets pretty hot.

It might be rusted up and binding within the caliper. Or the return spring on the caliper may be fatigued and not strong enough to function properly.

I just got a ‘03 3 door. The e-brake light will go out when disengaged, but keeps coming back on while driving. Is there an adjustment to the switch?

Carefully remove the boot & you'll see the switch. btw you can also adjust the park brake handle so it comes up to 3-5 clicks vs having it take 10+ before it holds.

Check your brake fluid.
