New here. 03 SVT save

Hello everyone. Iíve read this forum off and on over the years. I started with a 2000 ZX3 in 2003. Got it with 30K on it. Drove it to 2008, 178K. Then someone rear ended it and totaled it. In 2009 I found an 03 SVT ZX5 in great shape. Canít remember how many miles were on it. Maybe 97K.

I drove it for the next 7 years or so then got another car and let my dad drive the Focus to work instead of his truck. He still has the Focus at his house. Heís retired now. It has about 203K on it. Was completely repainted two years ago (same color), just got new exhaust this summer. It has been sitting for a few weeks now. Water pump is out.

I want to take the car and make some minor upgrades to some things and keep it going. Iíve been looking at some Steeda parts (strut brace, suspension, short shifter, brake kit). Any other suggestions? Or am I just nuts putting money into this thing? Iíve always liked the car and itís paid for. Thanks in advance.

J

Well, yes, it will remain stock. The suspension and brake jobs are because the car is 15 years old and it rattles a bit up front. I'm sure the suspension is worn out. I figure if I'm changing all that I may as well throw a strut brace on.

The short shifter I've always wanted and the original shift knob has lost its leather wrap and is all scratched up. The stereo, why not put something better in? Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming.

Make sure it is mechanically sound before throwing any money at upgrades IMO.

Drivability was the reason for new struts and brakes. It doesnít NEED them, was just going to make sure it was all good with new stuff.

But, I have decided to sell the car anyway. I do love it, but Iím just not willing to put the time and money into it. Thanks for the replies though.

I would make sure the engine is in healthy shape before putting money into upgrades. 200k miles isn't too bad, but its a good time to do some preventative maintenance. I made it to 300k before I ran into any real problems, but looking back I wish I would've spent a little more time under the hood

I know I haven't posted in a bit on this and the thread doesn't really seem to have much interest anyway, but anyone that did reply... I've decided to sell the Focus and keep driving my Civic. I don't have the time, money, or desire for the Focus anymore. Thanks for the advice though.
