HID Headlight replacement options?

Clearcoat failed on mine. I have too much experience wet sending, buffing, and then adding UV clearcoat.

Passenger side came out decent. Driver's side is duller no matter how many times I repeat the process.

What are my choices? I'd hate to buy a used one with the same issue.

Thanks.

Ok Pasta, thanks. At least there are options. No bulbs or ballasts though. It's alot of money considering the other things the car needs. I guess that's the way it goes.

I know this answer is going to suck but your best option is simply to continue to restoring the ones you have. Any cheaper options such as ebay headlights will all to the same thing in a couple years. Furthermore, there light output are usually crap on them. There are some good options such as used Dynobeams or ST-170's that will work but they are hard to find and at premium prices.

If you restore, I'd highly recommend finish the headlights off with a some clear Lamin-X covers. They will protect the lenses from future fading or damage. You could try this on ebay headlights as well and see if you can get them to last longer.

Oh no, I like your answer. It's just the restoration results. During restorations you can always get yellow in there that won't go away even down to the lower grits. You can also end up in a situation where the cracking is on the inside. For some reason, the driver's side is duller than the passengers when cleared even though I did the identical process 5 times on it.

Don't laugh out loud too much, but I had success with Formula 1 Scratch Out, based on a suggestion. My passenger side wouldn't pass inspection. My driver's side is almost brand new based on an "oops" on my part. The PS still has a very, very slight amber hue to it. I was in a semi hurry to get through inspection, so I just put a coat or two of carnauba wax as a quick protector. I'll take the whole assembly out and try to do it correctly. I think the key is the clear coat. I have a can that is: Flex, U/V resistant and works with plastic. I'll give that a shot. Just my $.02.
