Oil temp problem

So I was driving today and the oil temp Guage went all the way up to the red, past where the bracket ends....
My oil level is good and I just changed the oil about 100 miles or so ago.
I noticed the oil temp get really hot if I have my car running while sitting still, but usually no problems when moving.

My other gauges all read normal.
Any ideas what causes this?

yOUR OIL PRESSURE MAY BE LOW. Which means you will not have proper lubrication. Also oil pump could be going. Would not drive car till you find issue.

My oil pressure was reading steady....
But my coolant temp was rising as well....
It did this while I was in town, I watch all my gauges pretty close. I pulled over and let it cool, then everything went back to normal. First time it's done that. Didn't have any issues the rest of the day.

I know my stepdad who is a mechanic told me to expect my thermostat housing to go, could that be it?

Yeah. The fans kick on when it gets hot. I'm thinking about going ahead and replacing the thermostat housing and both temp sensors this week.

Could be the oil pump going. I'll look at it this weekend when I have it on the lift.

And I realize that oil and water are different. I'll find out for sure what's up this weekend. Gonna have it in the shop and on the lift anyway to check my A/C system. And no, I'm not paying the dealership, my stepdad is the shop foreman and a service technician at the Chevy dealership here in town, so I get access to his service Bay and tools on his Saturdays off.

I've got the thermostat housing, the head temp sensor, the coolant temp sensor, and a new thermostat. Gonna replace them this weekend see if that corrects the issue.
