Problems to check for before buying

Hey yall!

Ive always been enamoured with hatchbacks and i am going to look at an 04 svt 3 door next week, is there any particular areas i should pay extra attention to? Any telltale signs that its worn out? He said the coolant temp sensor needs to be replaced. And the timing belt was done ~10k miles ago. I plan to eventually rebuild for forced induction so i can so any pointers there would be appreciated too.

Pay particular attention to how the transmission feels. Does it shift between gears smoothly. Also look at the thermostat housing - is it leaking (the 2 piece housing is a common place for coolant loss).

EAP? Check the switches on the heated seats.

check the lights (fogged over?) check for other normal things. bushings, rust, steering, able to start. ask the person to make sure the car is cold and how long it takes to crank and warm up. check for things that rattle. Ask for maintenance records.

Just so you are aware the svt has a interference engine. Which means if T/B snaps there goes your head and possibly piston. This is why so important to know that it was replaced.

Once warmed up, Hows it pull thru the gears? How is the clutch? Been changed? Hows the motor feel at higher revs? Is it smooth at high revs? Does the e-brake hold? Hows the brakes? Hows the suspension? Off course I look underneath it= best to rack it up. Is there any mods?

Throw it in the cars for sale section....I'd have the paperwork/ recipes of what work you've done/had done. Of course have it cleaned/detailed.
