Welcome to FF......Great to see a svt. You have paper work regarding when the timing belt was replaced? How many miles?

I am the third owner. The car spent most of it's life in seattle and the last 3-4 years here in new england with the second owner.
He has no paperwork and he did most of the work himself. New CV joints, brakes, etc.
Car is clean, but I am afraid to drive it by reading all the timing belt posts here. It has 180k. My brother and I plan on doing the belt pretty soon, then taking it to the track.

Since you have no documented history on the t/b, I'd replace it now! At 180K, it would due for a timing belt anyway. Good idea to replace the timing belt on a SVT at each 60K mileage interval. Once in a while you can tell if it had t/b replacement by looking at it after pulling the covers to inspect, but, that's hardly fool proof method of checking. Timing belt and related replacement items are cheap compared to replacing valves or worse, the engine....

Would recommend getting your parts from steve at tascaparts.com. He is SVT guru.

New SVT adventure.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm ordering the parts today. My only problem is my brother has a garage but its 60 miles away. Since I have only base experience, he is going to help me do the job. I'll have to take the chance and drive it. Can't wait to get it on the track.

timing tools

I found a set of two tools, cam lock gage, and 2 crank stop TDC pins
from Massive. They sell fancier kits, but this one for $28 seems to be all I need.

Is this the correct set of timing tools to use for the SVT. These are the only tools I see used in the online videos for SVT timing belt changes.

I tried to post a link but the forum won't let me.

Can anyone verify?
Thanks,
Joe

make sure its the correct timing kit as "MY Ford timing set" comes with 1 bar and 3 different pins.. one is Stock 2.0 Zetec specific and one is SVT Specific. they are 2 different lengths..

you probably cannot post links yet because you need a min of i think 25 posts to prevent spammers..

while your in there change out that water pump as you pretty much expose it completely when you have the rest off to change the timing belt.. and as long as you do the change every 100k that engine is pretty bulletproof unless you over boost it and send everything in the wrong direction like some in the forums..

on a side note this is even more creepy.. i really liked the blue of your car and i found an abandoned Focus going to scrap shortly and its the same color a few days after seeing your post=o
