New to me 02 SVT quick question

Hi all,

Just bought an 02 SVT with 104k on the odo. It didn't come with an owner's manual and wondered what the proper oil and filter to use. I had a Mini S and it liked 5-30 and still have some Amsoil in stock. Can I use it??

5-20 and fl-400s is the filter. I'd use synthetic. 5-30 should be fine as well especially heading into the warmer months. Has the timing belt been done?

Thanks for the info. Timing belt claimed to be changed at 60k and the guy I bought it from checked it out and looked fine. I use Amsoil synthetic on all our cars, so we're good there. I'm in South Carolina, so it gets plenty hot starting now until October and rarely freezes. The oil looks great for now with no leaks. I'll change it in June so I can use up my 5-30.
I've heard from several folks to be careful about the timing belt on these engines. Does 60k miles sound about right for changing? It's got 107k now and bought it with 104k

60k is on the safe side. I wouldn't go more than 80k on one of those belts, just because if it does break your engine will grenade as well.

Sounds great. I hope the belts are easier to replace than on my old Mini Cooper S!!

Its not to bad, the VCT is a PITA getting it back together and timed correctly, other than that it is pretty easy.
