How To Clean Headlights Like New

This will be a simple write up on how to clean your headlights. I have a buffer, it costs about 20$, if you don’t wanna use the buffer then by all means go for it with some elbow strength. I think the buffer works better than your muscle though.
Here is the buffer I used…
10 in. Random Orbital Polisher

Here is the product I used to clean the headlights.
Blue Magic Headlight Lens Restorer 8 Oz. 725-06

Anyway, you want to start out by grabbing a moist rag and wiping the headlight down, get any loose dirt off of there.

If you are worried about your paint then I would mask the edges of the fender, hood and bumper around the headlight so that the Blue Magic stuff doesn’t get on the paint. When you buff the headlights, you will be buffing the paint with the Black Magic compound, so masking around the headlight is not a bad idea. I didn’t however, and I have had no issues on my paint, but still im just advising this so the reader is aware. Now then, squeeze some black magic headlight cleaner on the headlight. Like if youre dressin up your toaster strudel.

Then grab your buffer, set it on top, hit the switch and apply light pressure and let it go to town. Keep buffin….

As you can see it will start leaving that headlight like brand new! :D give as many passes as needed until youre satisfied. For the front I used the edge of the buffer, now the instructions for the buffer say to not use the buffer at an angle like that, but I didn’t care. It’s the only way to have that piece there so I did it anyway…

That’s all the gunk that came off.

Here are some before and after pictures.

Dirty Headlight….

Clean Headlight…

I forgot to take one of this side dirty….but here it is clean.

heh, i've always done the old fashioned elbow grease way.. i may end up trying it this way as i have a few of those buffers laying around.
I also find it interesting i have the same bottle of headlight restore solution (boy that stuff stinks when used inside a garage)

probably try it on a nicer day tho the 06 i picked up the headlights and fogs really need some TLC looks like someone tried but failed leaving lovely marks
only difference i see in how well it will work i live in Canada and a province that dumps record amounts of salt in winter on the road so the stuff it catches bakes in and fogs it REALLY bad

Sure do, I added it to a sites database already, I forgot the name of it though. Is there a link to one on this site?

Thank you.

There's one for the 2003's, but I've never seen one for the 2004's.

not to hijack a thread, but if any of you do or know of anyone who does automotive painting, many of times for headlights that I want to repair and cannot replace, I sand them down with a 220 grit, get all the imperfections out and then work my way up to a 600 grit and then I clearcoat them with Chroma Clear.

I will be doing two sets of Mach's here in a couple of weeks so I will have to post the results. It lasts an incredibly longtime without any issues, though it is a more time consuming process.

This was a cougar headlight, replacements were $300+ it so I clear coated them. Drove the car for 4 years and still looked that good the day I sold it, The guy I bought it from was amazing at how good the headlights looked.

Cool, I oughta get em painted sometime. I'm battling a CEL right now though, and a tire just went flat on me. Also I got hit 3 times on my rear end bumper(luckily a sand down and paint job will do it), and two wheels have dents on the barrel part of the wheel causing wheel hop. I'm tired of all this bad luck.
