Parking brake handle won't lift

Hey guys!

Been a while...

This one has me stymied, and as I wasn't able to find anything with the search function, I'm hoping I'm just asking the wrong questions.

I bought a wonderful, used SVT a while back, and one of the issues was the fact that the parking brake wouldn't hold. I didn't think much of it, as it's an SVT and I assumed the driver had done a few too many power-slides around corners and broke a cable.

I got home and looked under the car to find that the brake cable was intact, but corroded as hell. I assumed the cables had seized in the housing so I bought an entire cable set.

Upon installing, I noted that the old cables worked fine, even if they were ugly. However, one caliper's "hook" moved far too freely, and the other didn't move at all.

I took the calipers off to inspect them, and noted that the pistons didn't move. At all. The slide pins are fine, thankfully. So I ordered replacements.

Upon installing, everything seems fine (I have back brakes again ) but now the parking brake handle won't lift more than an inch or so and it's still not even slowing the car down when I pop it out of gear and dry to roll down my driveway and stop it with the parking brake.

Anyone have any ideas?

Does it just stop dead around an inch? or does it feel like it's pulling tight as an e brake would feel.

The latter option. I can feel some "stretching" and it will reach the first click, but there's no performance from the brake itself and that's about the limit of the tension without worrying about snapping something.

If you can get full range with the cables off the calipers and there is nothing binding the movement then I would lean to possible defective calipers.

You know, that seems obvious, and seems like that's something I would have tested... But my memory is absolute crap. I'll go unhook them and see if it moves.

*Assuming* that the handle doesn't move once I have them unhooked, where would one look to see where the cables are bound up? Is it an adjustment thing?

Ummm-it's an SVT so rear discs.

Check out how to adjust e-brake here-except you should be able to adjust by just remocing the e-brake boot.

Even though this is brake related I moved this to the SVT specific area.
