Oil Leak/Bad Head Gasket

I recently replaced my thermostat housing. Upon inspecting it for leaks, I notice the PVC tube under the tstat house was wet with oil.

It's not the valve cover because I recently replaced the gasket and there is no signs of leaking again.

I inspect the block around the head, it appears that block once was soaked in oil. I cleaned it up and it seems to just be old because it didn't clean up much nor has it got worse.

I'm going to try to clean it up better and inspect it further. But my thoughts are either:
-It's residual oil from the previous leaky valve cover
-I have a bad head gasket

What do you guys think?

I don't beat it
It has never overheated
There is no signs of coolant in the oil and since I fixed the tstat housing, I have not loss any coolant.

Cheers folks

Could be the gasket around the pcv housing.

Sent from another garage.

If you wait the head gasket was previously leaking thats a good canidate.

One other thing to check is right above the thermostat housing there is an oil valley (at least on the Zetec head, think it would be there for the SVT also) for the exhaust cam. It has a plug it would be very unlikely as the source but check around the plug.

Then there is head gasket, but the head gasket in that area I think has coolant around the # 4 cylinder and no high pressure oil lines in that so I would think you would see oil in your coolant also. not to many places for it to be from.

Other option is that previous people filling it with oil were sloppy and just spilled oil down the side also.

Im going to keep a close eye on it this week and post an update.

Should be able to. Oil floats on water.

Probably from Valve cover gasket previously. Keep checking your oil Level to be sure.

It does look like oil is pooling around the pcv elbow.

Do to Michigan's love of freezing rain and snow, I haven't been able to crawl under it.

Check my oil and coolant today and they look great.
