SVT fog light bulb options? Looking at H10 LED's

Down the road I am figuring I will need to replace the fog light bulbs and when I do I would like to swap them out for Led ones.

The factory housing looks like it's large enough on both ends (in side the lens and at the back side) to fit some of the larger multi LED bulbs that are available.

Is there a brand that people have had more success with? Any fears of melting the housing or wires? What's the highest wattage that's same for the housing and wires?

Is it worth it to shave the tab to go to the 9005 bulb size? This looks like it has a higher chance to melt something due to higher wattage available.

Thanks!

I don't think LED's have come far enough for fog lights.

Have them in my Hellas, not impressed.

Humm, well when a bulb goes out I may still try some. But long term once I have all the other things fixed I might try these 9005 3000k HID Yellow Light Conversion Kit | HIDeXtra the pro series 55W look to be promising and good quality...

55w may melt the housing plastic chrome a little.

I guess its how much is the "watt" rating still a true rating. We rate CF and LED lights still as the equivalent incandescent light bulbs.

The HID's had a DC/DC converter module so is some of the heat dissipated in the module or the bulb? Do the Mach HID's dissipate more power than or same amount of heat as the regular halogen style bulbs?

I know on the LED's they typically have fans & heat sinks to aid in the cooling of the LED's. but they still consume less than the equivalent 35 watt halogen.

So has anyone collected information about various bulbs and long term impact to the housing and wiring?

I've had the same 9005 bulbs in my fogs for 5.5 years now. The Laminx I put on simultaneously with the new housings and 9005 'failed' last spring. Got new vinyl and they're back looking new. I figured the SVT fogs could take it from the start if those micro H4352 (9005 inside) sealed beams housings can.

For wiring I cant say in the long term, I made a separate fog harness that is a DOT legal fog light mod, it uses stock relays and standard gauge wiring (not some crazy thick gauge).

What brand of 9005's do you use? It looks like they range from 65 to 100 watt.

If I was concerned with wire gauge then I can easily use the factory wire harness to engage a relay and use some higher gauged wire. My guess is 35 watts to 55 watts should not be that big of a change (1.5 amps more). I am not sure what AWG the stock wiring is (American Wire Gauge table and AWG Electrical Current Load Limits with skin depth frequencies and wire breaking strength) shows that a 20 AWG wire should handle the current. With it being a 10 amp or 15 amp fuse any de-rating should put the wire around a 18 awg wire. 55 watts per bulb, 110 watts total = 9.1 watts (worst case as operational will be more around 13.5/14V) = 7.8 amps. So is below the stock fused rating so should be able to handle the 55 watt bulbs. Its more the housing...

If your housing is working with 9005's which are the higher power body of the H10 then it sounds like it should be fine.

Standard 65w for me, I wanted yellow bulbs so I went with Nokya... and they're still going. I didn't even make a full harness, I wanted the fogs to go off with the high beams and a cleaner look than a jumper wire in the fuse box.

I remember the old old post about tab shaving the bulb, IDK what that was about??? They go right in.

So sounds like running a 55w should be no problem.
