02 Svt Focus issues

Hello everyone, I've been lurking the forums for a while and finally decided to come out of the woodwork to ask some questions in hopes of someone (or a few people) a bit more knowledgeable than me. This is my first posting, I apologize if its in the wrong area. Feel free to move my thread admins! I bought a 2002 Focus Svt about a year ago and have been fixing the issues all while daily driving it (Previous owner damaged anything and everything he thought he could fix). First off, the steering wheels has about an inch of side to side play.. This has been a huge annoyance and from what i can tell appears to be coming from the steering shaft's "rag joint". Does anyone here know the proper part number for the steering shaft? Googling hasn't helped much so far.. Second question is my parking brake is both hard to set and sticks pretty badly. It seems to me as though the cables are frayed/rusted and the passenger rear caliper seems to be whats sticking/hanging up. Does anyone have the part numbers to replace the full cable setup? Any advice on what to really look for, or quick fixes as far as the cables go? Thanks. I've been pretty stumped on finding these parts... Any input will be greatly appreciated! I'm glad to have finally joined the community btw!

Don't know what you refer to as a "rag joint", but steering column shaft & joints should have NO play - and it's an identical item SVT or not.

Brake questions have some answers in the Brakes, Suspension & Chassis section. Cables are going to be harder to find, Try Tasca for mail order as there's a good SVT guy there for tougher questions (Steve).

My play in the wheel left and right ended up being the steering rack itself. Check your power steering fluid level. If the reservoir is empty, then you could have an air bubble in the rack that needs to be bled out. If the reservoir is filled, the rack could still have an air bubble in it. Failed inner or outer tie rods can give you that play in the wheel symptom, so can blown LCA bushings.
