04 Comp Orange - Clear Coat Coming Off Bumpers

Body shop visit or is this a DIY job? Also, I have also noticed that the bumpers fade at a different rate than the body paint. Mine are a shade or two lighter than the body. I have seen this phenomenon on other Comp Orange SVTs.

Just for grins, the Comp Orange is the same (no the exact same) color as my Airens snoblower. Go figure.

That sucks. Better bring it to a body shop.

My Comp-O has the same issue plus it's fading. It lived it's whole life in New Mexico before I bought it. The color variation is because the bumpers are plastic.

I plan on a full repaint next year.

We thought about taking the bumpers in to have them repainted, but since there are variations in color due to the fading we decided to go with a new paint job.

We had a CD silver SVT touched up at a body shop. They charged me $500 to do both bumpers. You could go that route, but make damn sure they use a high quality paint and an accurate color match.

Thanks Dude. $500 seems like a lot of cash but I guess I need to fork over the amount to get this SVTF looking okay. I can sort of live with the fading of the bumpers but the bubbling of the clear coat really piss3s me off.

The PO gave me a couple of Comp O rattle cans and clear coat but it is for a Mustang Comp O color. The paint color is not ever close to the same color of the SVTF Comp O. Unfortunately I don't think I have a competent body shop near me. I'll look around. I'm kind of glad that I'm not the only one who is having this problem.

Maybe I'll call Airens to get their Orange rattle can (jk).

Take care - Mark

You could remove them 1st & bring the car down to have the paint match up correctly.

Black is one of the easier colors to match up.

Well, I took care of the front bumper but I had to run into the back of a RAV4 to get it fixed. The deductible was less than having it professionally fixed but I know my insurance rates will be going in the wrong direction.

Yeah mine has the same issue front and rear are peeling and you can tell the color difference in them. Body is different material then the plastic bumper so that's why it does that. Gonna paint it all the way around in the future

I have the same issue on the rear spoiler. I agree with what others have said, its most likely due to the difference in base material (plastic v steel). As for DIY vs going to a shop, take it to a shop. Getting the paint prepped, sprayed, and clear coat laid is going to be very tough unless you've done this before.
