When do you give up on your SVT

Mine is about 11 years old with 170k kms. Just wondering at what point do people stop throwing money at their cars other than for basic maintenance. I'm theoretically due for new motor mounts. My car sounds like an old couch and is knocking around everywhere so the control arms need replacing (endlinks and shock mounts were changed a couple years ago). Plus the engine sounds like it's running loud and rough (plugs just changed too).

I'm itching to find a simple, automatic Focus titanium.

The plan is to test the compression of the engine. If I'm good, then I'll think of having the chassis parts replaced and go from there. If the engine isn't doing so well, I'll wait for it to die and get something new. But right now it feels like the engine is still pulling strong.

NEVER!!!!!!

Ok kidding, sort of.
With potential motor issues I would wait on the outcome of that.

As long as you do the basic maintenance that motor will last a long time. Of course older vehicles need maintenance items as they wear. Yea you could just swap out vehicles, kinda sounds like thats what your really wanting to do, that'd really be up to you as you know your finances. Just for the heck of it, go rent a focus for a wkend or the whole week to see what you think. My thought is since you have a svt, (which I like) I'd think the next logical move would be a st, whether used or new.

170k km is just over 100k miles.
you're just past the point of the first timing belt. If i've seen anything on these forums is that americans can put some crazy miles on a car, and some of them have easily done 200k miles or 300k km.

even if maintenance starts adding up, its usually still cheaper than a new car payment.

Timing belt was done a while ago... I think at my 110k mark. If I were to change vehicles, I'd be getting an automatic. I live in the city with a lot of traffic and a lot of shitty drivers. Shifting all the time is getting annoying. Yeah while throwing $1000 at the car for bushing and mount maintenance feels like a lot, it's cheaper than a new car.

What's encouraging is the power is still there.

An engine mount or the ball joint (arm) replacement is just regular maint., nothing out of line or unusual to make you start wondering about keeping the car going.

If it was a rust bucket & needed a LOT of items repaired, then it might be time for you to let someone else deal with it.
