So, I spent a couple of hours working on it today. Removed some more plasti dip off of the calipers in the front while I was cleaning and lubing the breaks. I buffed the headlights a bit and their once cared for appearance came back pretty quickly. I will shine them up all the way when I remove the core support to paint it back to yellow instead of RED
Does anyone know what the hell is in the dashboard next to the center heater vents in this car's photos? Now there is just a hole. Thinking about fabbing up a mount for the microphone and usb jack for my new stereo just to fill the hole.
I read just about every post by the prior owners and can't figure it out.
Stripped the plasti dip off the calipers and the red was mostly gone so I took it to bare metal and rattle can E-coated it for now. Looks better than black plasti dip did.
Quickie buffed the headlights, driver and passenger both looked identical before. 1 minute on driver's side and this. I will do them better when I remove the core support to paint it.
New front struts, added length to my shifter 3.5'' and new shifter knob. Installed cup holder liners, and a nice set of 16'' racing stripes... Not enough post for pics...
I took out my machs to change out the ballasts/bulbs with some morimotos and remembered when I opened them up that I still need to figure out how to get the bulbs mounted on the back of the reflector bowl since I won't be reusing the ingnitor which holds everything together. on the upside I found a kinked airline going to my biggest horn behind the driver's side headlight. Rerouted the line so it won't kink when I shoved the headlight back it. Big difference... train horns sound just like they should now!!!
Took the door off to fix the shell. Was going to buy a used door but I can fix it so why waste money?
Straightened the shell during lunch, didn't do any filler work so I just sprayed some rattle can E coat on it until I can take it back off.
Mainly I just needed to pull the shell back into place where it separated from the skin. I tack welded the skin to the shell so I could slide hammer the door out to meet the fender without it coming apart.
Started to do some work to get the front suspension back in the SVT and my buddy showed up and end doing almost all the work for me...he was bored I guess...I felt bad so I'm going compensate him for his work.
My son just grabbed a cat back exhaust at the you pull it parts place to add to the other mods I bought the car with 3 weeks ago like koni yellows, Ford lowering racing springs, rear sway bar and motor lowering mounts and a tune. Loving the car so far. Hoping the catback sounds good!
Replaced fuel pump
I'd suspected it was dying when I got it. Noticed recently car wouldn't rev past 4-5 grand when at about a quarter tank. Ordered the new pump on Amazon for arrival today. Last night I barely made it home with half a tank because it got to the mid 90s.
I dropped the tank this morning, it got delivered about 2:30 and my wife brought it to the shop. Was at the gas station filling it up by 4:15.
I read a few how to posts about this. Don't take out your exhaust or cut the heat shield. Just bend that sucker shield out of the way, it's super flimsy but you can't hurt it.
I got tired of seeing a battery light and replaced the alternator plug with one I took from my zx parts car. Moving the brake fluid resevoir and unplugging the harness clips on the firewall gave a lot more room to get the soldering iron in there. the toughest part of the job was unplugging the original harness on the alternator. (Which is how the previous owner pulled the wires out)
Needle nose plyers and a small screwdriver made quick work of it though.
Gave my car both Middle Fingers for it breaking again. Stupid (brand new) wheel bearing went out the other day. It the two (less than 5 mile) trips I had to drive it it got even louder than it was.
I ordered several hundred dollars of wires and fuses for my ongoing stereo upgrade!
