Winter Tires

205/55-16 Dunlop SP WinterSport 3D. Got me through one of the rougher winters Michigan has seen in a while without any problems. Noticeably squirmier than stock 215/45-17s on a dry road, but still pretty good cornering, etc. Got me through up to 8" of wet snow with appropriate wheel spin (hate traction control). Overall a good tire for a decent price that I would recommend to others.

^^^For all practical purposes (especially to be used for winter rims) 16" is the limit.
You won't find any 15" steel wheels that will work.
There're 3 alloy wheels (15") that fit, but they're all close to $200 each.

8 years since the last post, but with all the info here I'd rather add to it then make another.

I have another set of 17 inch rims that the tires are almost bald on. I'd like to use those because I have them instead of trying to get a set of 16s. I drive an hour on a highway then another hour on state routes to get from home to school every other week usually, so I don't want a tire that won't last through the winter from that. After reading through all 12 pages of this I think the ContiExtremeContacts would be the best for me. We rarely get more then 3-5 inches at a time. Thoughts/opinions? More tires on the market since '09.

The tires on my car right now are so terrible I started sliding off of the highway at 50mph just from the slight grade in the middle... Yeah, it's bad. I also can't even get on it in first without spinning from the salt and stuff built up on the road.
