The winter tires are the same size as the stock tires. 215/45/17 summer tires for 215/45/17 winter tires. I mentioned the supplemnet to the owners manual only to show that yes, a SVTF will take a 16 inch wheel.

If you'd read the Fu****G post you'd see there all all sorts of post about putting 14 and 15" rism on the SVT focus! Those are the people I was refering to, maybe you should read before you get upset with people!

unless your driving the SVTF which has tires that are speed rated... Not rated for winter driving at all! This is pretty clear when you drive a SVTF on ice or snow and try to stop! I had to when I went to get my snow tires.... Horrible! anyway! Sorry if you guys all took the 1st post the wrong way....

There are major differences between the regular foci and the SVT foci... Some of which will cause parts not to fit correctly....

As far as the post above this one! Get a freekin grip man! All I said was you need to know what your talking about and that 14 and 15 inch rims won't fit the SVTF! Never mentioned anything about people using their stock 17" wheels, did I?!

Been shopping around best bang for the $ Hankook Winter Ice Bear W604 Q rated sized 215/45R17 $644 (Canadian $) installed and taxes in . Spoke to the manager at Mountain Tire and he assured me that with the new tire mounting machines I wouldn't have any issues with tires and rims getting damaged when changing seasonally so I'm gonna run them on the factory rims.

So honestly, does anybody recommend some good winter tires for the SVT that they have used already? I would like to keep my rims and just switch out my tires when the time comes. I'm looking for a cheaper set though. Also, does anyone know if it is cheaper to buy off the internet rather than going to Firestone or any other tire store? I was looking at tirerack.com and I wasn't sure if the prices are right and if the ratings hold up. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It's supposed to snow tomorrow morning so I have to get this project rolling!

yeah, I'll throw in my $.02. We ended up getting Michelin Arctic Alpins on my gf's SVT last November. They stayed on the car till April, so she got a full seasons worth on them. Bottom line, they worked perfectly.

To put it bluntly, she didn't know how to drive a standard before her SVT. On top of that, we had a very bad winter for these parts, quite a bit of snow. She was quite nervous at first, but after riding on those Alpins for a while, her confidence grew tremendously. So, if I was going to recommend a tire, it would definately be those. We also ended up getting them mounted on 7 spoke American Racing rims. We went to a 16" rim, and they caused a little bit of rub on big bumps when turning due to an increased profile, but there aren't any gouges in the tires themselves, and they still have plently of miles left on them.

Had the tires put on yesterday...no damage to the rims. The car does handle differently though (as expected). Turning is not as sharp. Almost feels like a higher profile tire. Anyway can't expect comparable dry weather performance from a winter tire. Now bring on the the white stuff.
