I had good luck finding my ST on Autotrader.com but also used cargurus and cars.com when looking.

I second expanding your search radius as well I ended up driving 386 miles to pick my ST up last August.

Newbie but I vote used Focus RS all the way

Like I stated above I am a newbie to this forum but am a life long performance car junky. The Focus RS is truly a special car and I have owned a ton of them. The peformance out of the box as well as tuning potential is off the charts and few cars can compete with its road holding ability in any and all situations. Nothing against the ST but front wheel drive is just limiting in and of its nature. I would be looking at lightly used lower mile used or at least in the Midwest they are dealing on hold over 2017 models. I can forward a Ford contact for you if you wish to pursue that. I am in process of customizing with a recent completion of a killer stereo system as well as working with Randy at Mountune to continue to work more HP and Torque out of this car. It is so responsive to tuning. The car is a beast and truly special. I would guess most who own one on this forum would agree. Again, nothing against the ST. Cost to purchase and cost of ownership is certainly easier to swallow. I am looking at it from an overall performance bargain. Although the RS is not cheap it competes with cars costing 6 figures.

Will this be a forever car? Will you look back 20-ish years from now and "just wish you had gotten the RS when you had the chance?"

The ST is amazing, but the RS... Well, how many turbo AWD hatchbacks has Ford put into production over the years? I think the RS is unique, special, and will carry value. Whereas the ST is a pretty much just a jazzed up SE (that's just my honest opinion, no one murder me).

Will the ST give you everything you want, or will you feel like you're settling in some kind of way?

Agree to agree ^^^^^^^ Get the RS, Ford had a $1500 off promo on it not long ago.. I'm sure you could find new leftovers for under msrp, the base model is only 36k

There's no head gasket issues now. I went to one dealer and all of their RS inventory was fixed under recall. So it's not like you take delivery of the vehicle and then months later have to bring it back for service. It should all be taken care of if you buy an RS today.

The same dealer I visited was selling these for $3,000 over MSRP last year. Today they are selling them at invoice.

Just so we are clear, the ST1 is 20-21k new, not the fully loaded ST3. What bothers me about the ST1 is that it looks just like an SE in the inside.

OP, if you want a black RS, then get a black RS. If you need to take a few more months & save some money, then do that & then buy a 2017 black RS in 2019. Youíll still be able to find one for 32-35k with under 10k miles.

The ST3 gets better MPG vs an RS, if thatís important to you, but the RS commands attention on the road. But if you want to save yourself 15-20k, then find yourself a 2018 ST1 for around 20k & call it a day.

Vehicles that are controlled by modules will not carry much value long term. As modules are discontinued, the value of the vehicle will plummet due to risk of the vehicle becoming inoperative. Also, the RS is not and will never be a "rare" car, even if it's the only car Ford has produced with it's particular feature set. Ford has simply built too many of them.
