What else have you looked at or test driven?

Not sure where this question comes from... you buy a performance car because you want it to perform. But there's no reason it should do so *and* be comfortable to run as a daily driver as well.

I'll look into the Mountune springs, though isn't a lot of the stiffness due to the electronic tuning? Different wheels/tires could be a helpful option, for sure, as stiffer side walls will make the road translate more, but seriously. This car has no reason to ride that hard all the time, especially since it has electronically adjustable damping. They could have tuned that very close to the standard Focus for daily driving and still set it adjust to track-friendly settings at the push of a button.

So far in a recent timeframe, I have test driven:
2017 WRX STI
2016 Golf R
2017 Golf GTI
2017 Focus RS

The RS is, by far, the most fun of these to drive and the least fun to ride in. I'm almost wondering if I could transplant a stock Focus seat into it and just drop the Recaro in for track days.

Seats would be swappable, ford wouldnt change the mounting points just for the RS (I just havent heard of anyone doing it yet, nor can i speak to the airbags/harness being plug and play.)

Performance and comfort, most would point to the R. You cant have everything perfect, sounds like you are going to have to compromise or change things to make it right for your needs.

Also, something like this could be a possibility if you dont mind spending $$ on swapping suspension:

sounds like Mountune is working on this for the US market. Supposedly much more compliant normal mode

Thanx Stephen for throwing that out there. K/W is a top quality suspension company & yea the v1 & v2 c/o's ride great. A seat swap would work, but its not going to make the ride any better. Yea the RS is basically a one dimensional car, great if you want a track car or weekend fun car, but to me not really a daily even thou for some its they're only vehicle. Thats where a Golf R would come in. IDK how the new Subie platform is, since I haven't driven one.

I'd consider the Golf R if they had one locally in a color I liked :D

There is *one* Gold R locally, it's a used off-lease job that wouldn't come with the full warranty, and it's black.
