Can someone help a Brit with a transmission question?

I'm looking for some help from the other side of the pond, regarding the MK1 Focus.

I currently drive a 1991 Escort RS2000 rally car, which you guys never got. However, my car uses the MTX75 Transmission from a MK1 Focus.

I'm looking to fit a 2.0 Duratec engine to my car in the coming months, as the original engine is heavy and not very powerful. There is a lot of tuning stuff out there for it too. In order to do this, I will need to change my transmission as the bolt pattern is different. Sadly we never got a MK1 Focus with a Duratec engine in the UK, so I am going to have to make it work with other parts, most likely from our Mondeo, which did get the Duratec engine.

My first question is, did the MK1 Focus 2.0/2.3 Duratec still use the MTX75 transmission in manual form?

If it did, does anyone have any pictures of one out of the car?

It would be good to compare the casings/mounts with the gearbox I am looking to use (also an MTX75, but from a 2001-2007 Mondeo 2.0-litre, which wasn't sold in the US).

Next up, if someone has a Duratec MTX75, could they take some measurements for me? I'd love to know some bell housing depth dimensions, input shaft dimensions etc.

This would lead me to my last question....are there off-the-shelf flywheel/clutch upgrades available for this engine/transmission combo? I'm looking for a super light flywheel and a paddle clutch that can take 220bhp and a real kicking from doing tarmac rallies.

I appreciate that it's a lot of questions, but I would be really grateful if you guys could help!

Well that's a good start!

I have sent a question over to Burton to see if they can help. The challenge here is that the 2.0-litre Duratec/MTX75 combo was only available in pretty mediocre cars here (Mondeo and second-gen Focus) so performance parts aren't in wide supply. The only performance application for the 2.0-litre Duratec here was in the Fiesta ST, which used an IB5 transmission.

It would be much better if I could get a flywheel/clutch in the UK, but I will import if i need to. I imported the MFactory parts so it's possible!

Yes there is many Clutches out the shelf stocking for the 2.0 , 2.3 Duratec MTX-75 combo

Why the 2.0 and not the 2.3 Focus or 2.5 Fusion duratec engines ?

Tom

That's good, thanks Tom. Are there any that come recommended? Something as light as possible would be good, but the clutch needs to be tough.

The reason for sticking to the 2.0-litre is for class reasons. On rallies in the UK, the classes are split by engine size (with a multiplier for forced induction). The 2.0-litre would fall in the 1600-2000cc category and, with 200-220bhp, would be enough to have some fun and maybe get near the front of the class sometimes. If I went to a 2.3 or 2.5-litre, I would be in the "over 2000cc" category, which is filled with 300-350bhp normally aspirated engines and I would get my ass kicked

What's the difference in the heads? The 2.3 engine isn't super common here, as it wasn't a popular option with customers (people love a diesel in Europe).

Cams are definitely high up the list, along with a different exhaust manifold and throttle bodies. That's as far as I had planned to go really.
