Tuned 15 SE w/manual transmission

Reporting in. I have a 15se hatchback 5speed 2.0L Focus. I've always tuned my F150s and had been wanting to see what could be done with the focus. It's my daily driver and had been performing that duty well for the past 4 months since I bought it.

As time went on though, the focus began to exhibit the same shortcomings as my 12 focus hatchback 5 speed. Namely the poor throttle calibration off idle making it feel like you can't drive a manual sometimes. I also noticed some flat spots in the rpm range.

I purchased Tom's tune, and within just a few hours he had emailed me the data log file and base tune. I loaded the tune and proceeded to drive 50 miles over 3 days. I could tell a slight difference in throttle response off idle right away, but that could have been from the KAM reset that happens every time you load a tune.

I then did the 5 minute idle, 5 minute cruise and 3rd gear WOT from 2k to 6k rpm (which takes you to roughly 83mph so leave some wide open road ahead before starting). This created a 4MB data log file that I emailed back. Within 24 hours I had the new tune file, including an idle speed bump to 800rpm. I took the car out for a quick spin.

WOW, the little focus jelly bean had a little bit more pep! It is no ST but the mid range pull between 3k and 4500rpm is harder and faster, shift flare between gear changes seems less, starting from a stop is effortless and that's just what I've noticed so far. I'm maybe regretting the 800rpm idle change, seems like I get an odd vibration at that rpm but I'm gonna let it soak for a week and see. My evap solenoid started clattering away just before I bought the tune and a new one is on order, that could be causing the rougher idle. I'm happy with the drive ability improvements thus far though.

Did some spirited driving on some curvy roads today and noticed the Rev hang between gears is nearly nonexistent, it makes shifting this little car (with my steeda under hood short throw shift bracket) smoother than any automatic. I'm actually really surprised just how much smoother the shifting is, it matches the attributes of the short throw shifter perfectly. Keep in mind my car is bone stock mechanically except for the short throw shifter and the tune.

I had Tom revise my tune and set the idle to 750rpm. I think it might be the sweetspot for smooth idle without much engine vibes. I have the eRMM and a new Ford passenger side motor mount.

Sounds like it is worth the jump for the shift flare I have alone..... I'm going to do it at some point. I like the thought of a little extra power as well. Better drivablility is always a good thing.
Thanks for the info.
