CAT delete from factory manifold

I decided to start a new post for this since the one about headers kinda went off on a tangent.

So I'm having issues with the factory catalytic converter on my 2014 se. I am experiencing some minor stumbles when cold, and a slight loss of power, along with a check engine light for code P0420(Catalyst System Efficiency Below threshold). I believe this is due to driving the car home from PA(300 miles) after the air filter had fallen off the intake tube, but was laying at the end, and severely disturbing flow into the intake and accross the maf sensor. The car ran PIG RICH(<9:1AFR) for the entire 300 miles and averaged 8 miles per gallon.

It is also worth noting that I have not had the repair done on the car for the evap recall, which I've read can also cause the CAT to fail, though i'm not sure how that's possible.

My question is, In lieu of buying a header(aftermarket or stock manicat), could I simple remove the pipe from the factory manicat, push it out of the way, stick a rod up in there and bust up the insides of the cat, pull the catalyst out through the bottom? i could then have Tom disable my secondary O2 sensor in my tune to turn the check engine light off.

Would I see any adverse effects from going this route? Drone in the cabin??? Would I gain any power just by removing the insides of the cat?

Do you guys think the trip from PA is what caused the convertor to fail? It's odd that it took over 4 months to start having issues? What about the evap issue, is it true that it can damage the CAT?

That code could just indicate a bad rear o2 sensor as well , hard to say

How dirty is the MAF , have you cleaned it sense the trip ? Plugs ?

Agreed, but I really don't want to just throw $70 at a new O2 sensor and pray the code goes away.

I think it's been about a year since the maf was cleaned. I did do a top end clean with Seafoam a month or so ago. I haven't checked the plugs.

When we were on the raod trip, we stopped at one point, and there were solid chunks of carbon spitting out the tailpipe, I can't help thinking that some of that crap got stuck in the converter.
