Evap Purge Valve Delete

I've been having some problems and was hoping to get anyone's thoughts. First off, I have a 2013 Focus Duratec 2.0 n/a. Tom's tuned it and been running great with the exception of 1 weird problem.

The Focus is Asia spec so not manufactured in the US, potentially not part of the faulty purge valves. The problem is I have been having inconsistent performance issues. By the way, this was already happening before Tom tuned it so no haters please.

See, the cars performance varies depending on the fuel levels. Car runs smoother when fuel is less than half tank and runs best at 1/4 or less fuel. Fuel tank readings is slightly inaccurate at times but recalibrates itself after you switch the engine off and turn it back on. Could be the purge vavle but it hasnt presented the other symptoms like CELs, codes, dented fuel tank, stalling, and all the others Ive read about the recall.

I want to troubleshoot it and Tom adviced to take out the Purge Valve altogether. Ive searched online on steps to delete it but have found none and am wary to just do it and mess it up.

Wanting to hear thoughts on the risks of doing so and if possible, any steps with pictures anyone could share would really really help.

Or any advice on what else could be causing it if not the purge valve. By the way, ive eliminated the weight factor since its still faster with full passengers on less fuel than driving alone on a full tank.

Thanks all

I have an Asian market focus 2.0l duratec as well.

Last year the fuel pump in the tank failed and was replaced. I didn't have any issues related to performance versus fuel level, it just failed.

However, you might want to look at getting a device to log the fuel pressure at varying fuel tank levels. This might provide an insight into the issue.

Thanks, bud 🙂 I got a fuel filter to see if that could be it as well. I want to see how the evap delete works first. The problems so hard to diagnose honestly.

I had similar issues when I got my 2014. Replaced the purge valve and all has been good since. This was before the recall was announced.

You can remove the purge valve and see if it is leaking. Do a search for P144a on YouTube. You'll see videos on how to remove and test it.

Apparently the canister can be checked to see if there is any fuel inside, but it does involve lowering the fuel tank a bit to get to the mountings.

I would remove the valve first and see if it is leaking (can be blown through). Or just replace it fisrt and see if your car drives better.

There is a recall that relates to the purge valve in some countries.

For my car I have to check the Australian site https://www.ford.com.au/owners/vehic...action-lookup/

Only the transmission and clutch recalls show up for my vin number, but you can check your vin number on the Ford website for your country to find out.
