CMP Intake for 2013 Focus

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on this forum (yay!), but I have been following for a while because of the great info on the MK3 focus.
I've got a 2013 Focus SE Hatch, 5 spd. I'm about to start making some upgrades to it as it's about to hit 50k miles. First one is going to be intake.

I'm going for best bang for the buck, which from what I've read is the AEM/K&N/Green filter drops in with the snorkel delete.
However, a mechanic friend of mine who works on VWs and Audis sent me a link to an Ebay one by a company called CMP Auto Parts (can't post links or pictures, but check it out).

I've always been told to be leary of Ebay parts, and the claims on this one are pretty high: 7-13 HP and 5-10 Ft-Lbs. Doesn't say if that's Wheel or Crank, but I'm going to assume crank to be conservative.
Dry filter and aluminum pipe have me excited over the stock plastic.
Open air box is what concerns me, because it leads me to believe it's going to pull in hot air from the motor rather than the cold air coming from the front.

What are your guys' thoughts? Is this worth it? Definitely looks cool, and I like the blue filter. But, is it going to be on par or better than doing the AEM Drop in? (Leaning towards the AEM because it's dry).

I appreciate any input, thanks!

personally i'd recommend just getting the high flow filter and doing the snorkel delete. it's the best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the reply Jburks; that's what I'm leaning towards. I don't know if I trust the CMP product, and haven't seen any reviews anywhere, where as we all know the Drop-In filter plus the snorkel delete is proven horsepower gain.

Even if you get a couple extra HP from a "cold air" intake. Is it really worth the extra cost? a couple HP wont be noticeable.

You're exactly right. I was looking at FSWerks kit, and they show 8.8 HP for just the filter. I doubt the CMP gives any more than that, and would probably give less. Just the drop-in and snorkel delete gives a proven 8 HP, so why spend an extra $130 for an extra HP? You'd never feel it.

Welp, guess that answers my question haha! Thanks again Jburks. Sometimes, it just helps to talk it through with someone.

I think I'm going to go with the AEM just because it's dry and I don't have to worry about oil; reapplying, or it getting on the MAFS. Apparently, it's made by K&N but with AEM badge on the end, so it should give the same power gains.

You wont see 8.8 hp , call FS and ask them if they guarantee you 8hp gain from there kit and you will get a NO!

There is a reason they wont guarantee it !

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks!
I'll take your word for it.

By the way Tom, what numbers have you seen with the drop in + snorkel delete? I've seen the stickied snorkel delete thread that showed 8 HP, but have you seen that in other scenarios? If so, you basically be spending extra for looks and sound.

If you're feeling brave and experimental, I'd say look at all the different designs of intakes currently offered and try to make your own. I have the typhoon by k&n but feel I could have made the intake for half the price I paid but I live in Florida and didn't want to spend forever outside in the heat. That's at least what I would do.
