Have you done the snorkel delete, if not, try it... will give your car more pep in your step. :)

Yes, swapping just the top back and forth for smog check would be quick and easy.(like 2 minutes once you are standing there with the tools)

Probably not allowed to modify OEM style intake tract in CA? Although not sure what a filter or airbox lid or even adding a snorkel has to do with effecting any smog or pollution standards unless you're removing components that filter or recirculate particles that damage the ozone?
