Why are you listening to the dealer? Their description of the cause of this supposed carbon build up is totally silly, I really doubt they really inspected your car thoroughly enough to find anything. They are just trying to sell you an overpriced and suspect "cleaning solution".

i agree. I think it's a scam. tell them to show you the carbon buildup. There is no reason premium gas would be bad for your engine and you are right, these engine do prefer it. this sounds pretty fishy to me. people have talked about catch cans but I don't think anyone has added one yet. would probably be hard due to the location of the oil separator.

That builds up on all vehicles. It will hinder smooth operation of the throttle body. Go buy some throttle body cleaner, hold the butterfly open, spray cleaner, and scrub clean. Do this of course with engine off or you might throw a code for throttle position sensor.

heck they said I owed them 500 dollars for a new horn, front and rear alignment, hood repair ( I closed pliers into the latch). And they wanted to add another 200 dollar Throttle body cleaning too that. I told them that they were out of there mind and I wouldn't let them do the cleaning and I wasn't going to pay more than 275. The guy called me back the next day and said that $229 would cover all of it.
