Lunch box delete

So I've been in and out of the shop trying different set-ups and wasting a lot of money and I came out with a really simple and cheap way to get decent sounds out of my 14 Focus SE

1) I tried switching a flowmaster in and the lunch box out
it sounds nice and not loud. It is tamed. You can hear something now. It rumbles a little on deceleration. You can hear it on the street. Can't hear it on the freeway. You need to have your windows down to hear it and it won't disturb anyone. No drone or nothing. It's a very pleasant step above stock.

2) I also tried putting just a flowmaster and deleting the resonator to get some more sound. It was a big mistake! If you like ricer exhaust sounding systems go ahead. Metal rattling buzzing sounds out of my tail pipe is not for me. Under normal driving conditions it sounds nice deep and rumbles. It is a very pleasurable sound but once you put any load on the engine and you get some fart can sounds. If you like the ricer sounds then this is for you

3) This is the cheapest easiest way to get a decent sounding tone out of the ti-vct engine. Simply remove the lunch box or muffler under the bumper and you get a decent sounding exhaust tone. At idle, you can barely hear it. In normal driving conditions you can hear it well. You can barely hear it in the highway. You can get some drone in the highway under load. It only cost me $20. I bought a 90 degree bent elbow pipe, a down pointing tail pipe and two exhaust clamps. I cut the lunch box put the elbow and tip, fastened them both with the clamps and this is what I got.

It could use a small glass pack or some thing to smooth out the tone but for now I am happy :)

4) I found an old fart can in my back yard so here you go

I can't replicate exactly what I did because, I already did it (pipe cutting) but it's straight forward and self explanatory

I too replaced the "lunchbox" i used a no name resonator the exhaust shop had laying around used. Pretty much a glasspack or cherrybomb. Paid $10for the resonator and $85 for them to weld it up. It is mostly quiet until i get in it it gets a nice tone. Little drone and no popping

I can do a tutorial, it's real easy to get rid of the lunch box and do the piping or switch it out for a cherry bomb/glass pack

I just posted the link to the quick tutorial. I think it cost a total of $20 to do what I did probably 30 if you plan on replacing the muffler with piping.

If you buy the pipe cutter you can keep it forever and I'm sure it's a tool you will use again. I know I will, every car I get, I mess with the exhaust system lol

Thanks. I can confirm now that the lunchbox delete does indeed sound very good. I am going to try a resonator/cherrybomb just to check if I like it better....but I doubt it. The tone is very nice, low, and NO RICE.

I chopped off the muffler with just enough room to clamp it back on it if I need to, and welded a post on to slip in the stock hanger. 20 minutes tops.

The loudest is decelerating with the throttle plate closed....even then it sounds pretty dog-gone great.

Thanks for trying this out for all of us wimps!

I thought it was only the MK1/MK2 who had the "lunch box" ugly square thingy...

Can't see anything that ugly under my MK3 now :P

The nk3 has a front muffler and a rear muffler. The rear muffler is what people call the lunch box

I know but the source of that term is from the Focus MK1/Mk2 gen (unusual muffler shape) ;)

Know your facts right

Btw, dang that thing was ugly!
