Yeah I never understood why Ford went to the "lifetime" filter. I pulled mine apart after removing and at 102k it was so full of debris I couldn't believe the car was still running. Leaves .sticks. cigarette butts and pieces of candy wrapper. Lots of dust.

When my Brother got his 2005 I believe that was back in 2011 or 12 we replaced it with a full-length k&n cold air intake.

Yea that'd work also....IIRC K&N offered a couple few different options.
