$10 says its one of 2 things, ROHS compliant Tin solders is whiskering and causing components to bridge, OR cold solder joints, my pickup had cold solder joints, my windstar had cold solder joints, 2 of my 2000 focus radios had cold solder joints where half the radio would die and my current 06 focus had issues with the gauges going berserk. all it takes is one point and its like ***** hits the fan and everything goes crazy.. i usually end up removing the Tin crap and replacing it with the ol proven lead/tin 60/40 mix and never have issues again

reflowing the entire connector with new solder where it had intermittent signal issues

i ended up replacing the stupid radio with a JVC radio from Frys electronics bc it was on sale. i got the spiral audio dash kit because it was cheaper than metra and scosche. i also bought the wiring harness from spiral audio, then bought an antenna attachment and cubby thing to fill in the hole from frys. its been 4 days and so far no problems. Loud popping/crackling sound gone!! the noise was happening everyday before i replaced the radio.

its a common issue its the controller box behind the dash.. if any of you replaced it and have the one thats bad still i would be interested in it so i can do tests and see if i can find the issue... i dont have the year car with that radio and im not buying a scrap yard working one i prefer one thats broken so i can see if i can find the issue and if it is repairable

I know it's been some time since you have posted. What did you find out?
I have this same issue. There is a TSB 13-4-14.

I am going to the Ford dealership in two weeks. Of course they need to run a diagnostic first. I will bring in the TSB information. After they tell me I need a new head unit/DPM update, I am going to tell them to pull the fuse.

You said you pulled the fuse. My user manual says #79 is radio/door lock switch and #80 is the radio receiver. Which fuse did you pull?

Thank you.

I have a 2014 Fiesta with the same issue - loud noises even when the car is off and the key is not in the ignition. Has anyone found a solution yet? Has anyone tried to replace the radio box (many available on eBay) to see if that resolved the problem?

I had the exact problem with my 2012 focus se 5 door. Popping, crackling, white noise ( even when locked and not running!! I took it to My Ford dealer, charged me $245 to tell me that they don't know what the problem is, supposedly the Stereo and speakers WORKED for them!! Ya right??? I had to pull the stereo and speakers and I'm now $500.00 into installing a Kenwood dbl din stereo, cd, blutooth, handfree unit, with 4 concert series speakers! $180 for a new dbl din Dash Kit too!! What a pain in the rear!!! Right? It was freaking me out when I'd go out to my car in the am for work, and I hadn't even deactivated my alarm and my car is emitting a very loud WHITE NOISE sound!! Creepy!!! I bought my Focus brand new in 2012, it's been the best car I've owned since my 2007 Edge( I had for 5 years)!!

It's cheaper to just pull the stock system and install a New Stereo & Speakers

Radio popping...

I have a '14 Transit Connect with all the symptoms previously mentioned. The only cause I can think of is that I have been running the heat lately (-20F last night - Hello NE winter), the dash where the radio is located gets really hot.

I pulled the radio today, all parts. I inspected everything down to board level. Looked good with the naked eye.

Reassembled. Everything appeared to be working for a while then BANG, POP!! Scared the crap out of me.

I will take apart again tonight and see if I can find a poor solder point...
