MK3 motocraft shock part # definitions and upgrades?

rock auto has these parts available for suspension replacement for the 2012-2014 focus. they're also listed for the ST.

while i know rockauto's list is a little primitive, but I also know ford OEM part numbering is very specific. There are different part numbers for all of these items. There are different names for all of these items. What do these all refer to? Which packages did they come on Focuses from the dealer? how do you know what is what?

What are the differences between...

"Standard" Suspension
"Heavy Duty" Suspension
"Performance" Suspension
"Touring" Suspension
"Handling" Suspension

This is a list of all the part numbers available, for both from

ohhh wait wait i found something useful

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...310-NG*&page=8

someone in 2012 checked and figured out the following packages that existed for those models. god only knows what's on my 2014...

"

This is compiled from checking dealer inventory VINs in Etis, parts lists from Fordparts.com, and information from other posters. It is interesting to see how the different models are packaged. It also makes me wonder if there are errors in Etis. For example, I don't see the "MD" rear springs being used with any model, but I expected them to be used on the Titanium with 18" wheels. Also, the SE Sport uses the S rear springs?

There is no difference between hatch and sedan suspensions.
All models use the same stabilizer bars - 23.5mm front and 19mm rear.
Both suspension packages use standard brake calipers and pads.
There are two different front lower control arms - one for the S model (15" wheels) and one for all other models (16", 17" and I assume 18" wheels).
Front suspension knuckles are the same, but different rear (I think) suspension knuckles for 18" wheels.

I had another question, I noticed on rockauto.com and on this thread there is not spacific strut/shock for the ST. does anyone know if that is the same as the handling package or if it's different? and what is the part number for the ST parts?

You looking to lower your car? Or just change out the dampers?

well i'm still a few month away from doing anything but yeah i want to lower it. i was considering coilovers but this car is a daily driver and i dont know if the cost for coilovers is really worth the benifit. It sees some windy roads on the way to work a couple days a week but that's about it. otherwise just around town stuff. I was thinking about upgrading the dampers to the ford handling package dampers and then adding some sportline springs but i might do the ST front struts and handling package rear shocks too.

For the database. I saw a 2014 Focus Titanium with Handling Package at the dealership today and looked at the part number stickers on the springs.

The front (right) was: BV61-5310-MLB. "C346 FRT" white tag with solid yellow end of the tag.
The rear (right) was: BV61-5560-MDF. "C346 RR" white tag with yellow stripes.

These were off 2 different Handling Package cars as I couldn't read the front tag on one of them. Forgot to read the rear tag on the car with the front tag that I could read.
