Now is the time to install EBC Yellow Stuff brakes. You can go so much deeper before braking, and still maintain control. They will get hot, but not too much in just autocross. And they don't squeal in ordinary driving.

This may be a side effect of racing, or racing just helped find the fault. Left rear wheel bearings just went out last week under normal driving. Local dealer replaced under warranty at 30K miles.

I am running Hawk HP+. They're fantastic for autox but on the street they're a little too noisy. Every stop is like nails on a chalk board but man can you drive deep into a turn.

Likely a combination of what you stated above causing the problem.

Has your season started up again? My first points event is this weekend.

My season starts on the 18th. I plan to use the brakes to the fullest extent this year.

I like the yellow stuff because they are also quiet on the street.

My next set of pads I will likely try the yellow stuff or Hawk HPS for better streetability. The nice thing is if I run Hawk at national events and place then I will get contingency money.

Your ST is faster than my SE, and with stickier tires(200TW vs 340TW), but I ran a new set of HPS this past weekend and they seemed to do fine for autox.

I run HP+ on my STR(moving to CSP next event) Miata and they do grip hard. I don't drive it on the street much, but I only hear squeaks a little and typically when brakes are cool.

So I noticed this weekend with a Co-drive that the front disks were 580 degrees which is about the max for HP+ pads. I think this is due to several things.

One, the ST has a stupid e-diff that uses the front brakes to prevent wheel spin and when pushing really hard is probably working the front brakes hard.

Two, the sport mode mostly disables the stability control but at some extreme times it still kicks in.

Three, very fast back to back runs with little time to cool the car between runs.

Yeah, my Miata is only a touch over 2300lbs and the factory sized brakes on it are quite good. No stability control working the brakes. That probably helps my HP+ stay cool enough.
As much as I hate it, I will have to swap pads at the track with that car now that I'm running aero and I may go with R specs instead of 200TW.

Just to be honest: On the 19th and 20th, I ran a division level (Mid-Div) autocross. I was bested in class by a Fiesta ST. But, they counted Master's class, and I won that on Sunday against a 'vette driver with a lot of experience. I ran the best I've ever done, chirping the SUR4Gs on the final curves and kissing the rev limiter at the finish line.

But it left me wondering, what if I was in a better car, applying these skills?

So, this weekend I'm going to look at a Miata. It will probably be a long learning curve, and I'll finish the current tires off before I get good race tires for the Miata. I may even sell the Steeda sway bar and wheels on this forum as I retire the car from racing to just be a daily driver.

I checked out a Z3 before, but it had a bad chassis issue. But I loved the torque of that in-line 6.
