Hey, just a heads up on an issue I am having,

My cruise control intermitantly fails to respond atall when trying to turn it on. I.E. I have no cruise control. Finally got it to happen today while the dealership was open so they could see the issue. They kindly took five minutes to scan the car right away so I could get to work on time, as of now im waiting to hear back for their findings.

Like I said, just mentioning what I think is a new issue, not by any means complaining about the car, I do love it.

I finally got my car back yesterday, complete with new steering wheel assembly (still not sure why they replaced everything AND the airbag but oh well). So far so good. I'll post back if I have any more issues. I wasn't very happy with the dealer though... I got halfway home and look over at the passenger seat and there is a lovely grease spot on the "silver" colored area on my sport seats... upon further inspection, there was also one right between my legs on the silver area on the driver's side, a huge forehead mark on the windshield right in my view, and a dirty handprint on the headliner right above the driver door... I cleaned it all up myself since I didn't feel like driving 10 miles back to the dealership... Not happy though! Oh, they also didn't have any of my paperwork ready and are supposed to mail it. I just pray that this is finally it...

Well, seems the CC issue is cropping up a lot. I think I was one of the first to have a problem. Mine worked normally the first day and ever since has been all over the place, from not working at all to only the (+) button working to the (-) button acting like "cancel" and everything in between. Oddly enough, one of the "it's working now" moments came as I drove in torrential downpours. CC had not worked in days but suddenly, I hit a large pool of standing water at slow speed but enough to act like I had hit the brake. Next time I tried the CC, it worked perfectly and kept working for the next week!! I am now at 6000 miles and still intermittant as heck! The turn signal switch was replaced to no avail and the steering angle sensor is the next part to supposedly replace but who knows! Have not taken it back yet. I have a great dealership but how can you fix something that won't stay broke or changes symptoms. Very aggravating for all involved.

Crystal, I appreciate the thought but I have not had time to take it back but one time, They replaced a switch on the turn signal first. They tested it and said it worked and I believe them. However, the first time I tried it after leaving dealer, it would not set at all. Very random problems. For instance, during today's drive, it came on and set and I could add or subtract speed or cancel but it would never resume. If I ever get to the point that they have tried a lot of things and can't fix it, then maybe I will get you to do this.

I got my paperwork today from the dealer and this is what they said they did:

Complaint: Customer states that the cruise control is inop and the steering wheel has a noise while turning. [I'm unsure where they got the noise complaint.. I never said anything about a noise because I've never noticed one?]

Correction: Verified concern. No DTC's retrieved. Performed pinpoint test A. Pinpointed fault to the steering wheel assembly. R & R the steering wheel assembly.

Parts ordered:

CP9Z 58043B13 DA Module [this is actually the airbag module]

CV6Z 3600 SA Wheel Asy - Steering

I hope this helps everyone in getting this figured out!

As you can see from my post in May here I have had this issue for months.

Took it to the dealer their tech experienced the issue. They have no ideas and told me Fords service/tech line gave them no ideas so they reflashed the ECU. My dealer then told me it was working. I was doubtful.

Picked up the car last Thursday night, cruise control has failed to activate all but once. I drive the car a ton for work and try to engage CC 3-5x daily. No dice.

I call the service writer Friday and he tells me he has to call Fords tech dep't again that he would call me Monday.

I just got off the phone with him, I had to call him its now Wednesday and I heard nothing. He tells me the technician will need the car for an extended period of time. They need to "look at certain parameters while its not working". I told him he already had the chance to do so.

This is the stuff that infuriates me. He even wanted me to leave my car up to 1 week. Makes me want to call and cancel the extended warranty If this is the $hit I have to deal with on any issues. I even told him about the clock spring but of course we are the idiots.

That is what I fear too. The dealerships have no idea how to fix the cruise control. I also have an extended warranty, but I guess it is useless since the problem can not be fixed by the dealers. I can not afford to leave my car at the dealership for an extended period of time. I only have a problem with the cruise control and I fear that if they monkey around with the car then it may end up worse!

In my case the first time I brought it in they returned it saying they had adjusted something.

It didn't work driving out of the dealership, so I turned around and gave it back to the service writer. This time they replaced the switch assembly.

That fixed the problem for a while, but the problem is coming back now. It's an intermittent problem, the hardest kind to fix.

Cruise not working

I've had mine to the dealership 4 times, still can't figure it out. It defeated the purpose of buying a new car. The thought was to leave my wife with something new before going on a deployment. Ford really needs to get an engineer involved and figure it out or they're going to take the car back.

Just had my wife's in at the deaerl to get this looked at. Cruise would turn on, but wouldn't engage every time (engaged only 1/5 times probably). Really annoying for a car you bought to drive the 180 miles to the beach 15 times a year. They replaced the clock spring assembly, as well as the air bag/ steering wheel insert due to some peeling paint on the silver insert. Didn't even ask for that.

Works for now, hoping the issue doesn't come back. Only got 5k left on the bumper to bumper.

Add me to the list of Cruise Control Problems.

For several months Cruise is an intermittant issue. Cruise would work fine for days/weeks. Then it would not work for several days. Dropped it off at Dealer a month ago and it was working for them so they could not do anything.

Last Friday, dropped off the car at the dealer, Cruise not functioning. Even took a test drive with a Rep to show it not working.

Got a call this morning, it is working and they can't test anything to fix a problem. (Basically the reps attitude was: It works so there is no problem) Sorry, but they saw it was not working, just because it is now working does not mean there is not an issue. That is the nature of an intermittant issue.

They need to test components, verify all are 100% operation and within parameters and at least re-seat all components to ensure nothing is loose causing the issue.

VERY FRUSTRATING!

Thank goodness I found this thread!

I have been having the same exact issue! I have a 2012 SEL Hatch and my Cruise Control only works when it feels like it. I have addressed this 4-5 times with the service advisers and techs. All but one time, they said there were no issues an that it was working. I finally brought it in once when it was working and they replaced the buttons. It worked for a couple days and it was out again. It wasn't turning on at all. Sometimes when it's working, it exhibits strange behavior like the buttons had but switched around. I took it in this past Wednesday as I unfortunately had 2 nails in my front tires. I live right around the corner so I was able to drive it safely in and figured while I was there, to have them address this problem.

I was first told that the tech that got paid to work on the Cruise was not in so I would have to bring it back. (Later on I find out the individual kept changing, so no one knows anything). I was not satisfied with that answer. I simply want it fixed. I was then told not to bring it on weekends to have things fixed. They are an Autonation dealership that advertises 7 day service, not 7 day pick and choose service! They wanted me to keep my car there for an unknown amount of time, meanwhile I needed to get to work and a shuttle wouldn't cut it because I work 20 miles away! I made a big enough stink, but not in a hostile way and I was a rental on the house. I made a couple calls during the day and there was no news. I was eventually told that it will be looked at the next day and that I could keep the rental another day.

Yesterday I morning after I was already at work, I was told that there wasn't a problem and that it was working. I was then told that the Cruise is not supposed to work under 30 MPH. So they were then questioning my ability to work my own vehicle! How insulting! I know how my car is supposed to work! Cruise can be turned on at any speed, even sitting still. Engaging is a different story and I KNOW here is a minimum speed! I was also told that it could have been fixed but there was no record. I was not satisfied with that answer and told my adviser that I have brought it in several times over this and I am tired of it. My adviser said that the next time it happens, to bring it in and not turn the car off. I told her I will take video as proof because I don't have the time for this and it could happen anywhere at any time.

This gross misdiagnosis when this is such a prominent problem is unbelievable. I love my car, but so many little things have gotten on my nerves unlike any car I've owned before! Don't get me started on the seat that get spots due to simple water/rain water....

Add another 2012 Focus to the list as well

I use my cruise control all the time. I have the same problem, it works fine for a month or two and then it works when it wants to. I have had it in the shop twice so far. I saw that Russ had the "Clock Spring" replaced. I will see what the shop says about it this time. Roger

I have an update as well, I just realized there are 2 threads that point out this issue. Here is what I said here:http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326999

UPDATE: It wasn't working all last week, deceided to work on Thursday, and quit again on Friday. My hopes were that it would not work Saturday morning so that I could bring it in! I brought it, took video of it not working AT the dealership, left the car on and showed someone. They they had a tech take a look only to tell me 20 minutes later that it was all of a sudden working. I showed the tech the video and he gave me the same spiel of "I can't fix something that ain't broke"...I was LIVID. He then said that they would need to keep it a few days and have someone look at it while hooked up to the computer, etc. I told him to do what ever they needed to do to get it fixed! I already had the switch replaced once and it displayed the SAME behavior just a few weeks later. I spoke with a manager and expressed how disappointed I was ant that if they want my car for a few days, they are going to have to give me an accommodation because they did not fix the problem the first time and I have brought it in at least 4 or 5 times already. They were great and gave me a free rental. I let the manager know how much I appreciated it and thanked him several times. They've had my car for 2 days now and silence, so I gave them a call. I spoke with a service adviser who was familiar with my case as he's seen me before and we spoke for awhile last time as I awaited Enterprise. They said it may be the switch again, so they ordered another one (2 in fact). Not sure when the part will be in/installed, but they will be testing it all throughout.

It's frustrating because this could be an indicator of a more serious problem. If I drove more city miles I wouldn't care as much, although I paid for a feature that should rightfully work. I do a lot of highway travel so aside from A/C this is one of the few features I require for my vehicles.

UPDATE 11/20/2013:

As of today, I haven't heard anything since I called THEM on Monday. My car has been in the shop since Saturday (11/16/13). When I had it in for body work from when I got rear ended, I received an update every day, but it's silence with this issue. I'm just thankful they gave me a rental for free, I can't complain too much, but it's just a frustrating process.

Speaking of the clock spring, that was one of the systems I told the tech to check when he was telling me nothing is wrong. My 2007 Focus had an airbag light in 2012 and they (another local dealership) found too much electrical resistance somewhere in a related component. They put whatever grease they needed to, I gave them the require $90 for their diagnostic. They also told me that next time it happens, I may need a new clock spring. I accepted that as it was a 5+ year old vehicle and out of warranty. My current one is barely 2 years old, so I find this plenty strange, especially when I had other non Ford vehicles that were much older and never had an issue like this. I had a late 80s Mazda 929 that needed a new headlight switch as it was draining my battery, a new radiator, and new master cylinder...but the car was 15+ years old at the time! I later had a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that needed a negative battery cable after 8 years and a new headlight switch after 9 (I got rid of it as the engine decided to leak coolant).

The Nissan Altima rental I have has plenty of pickup, room, and the most comfortable seats in the world....but the lofty suspension, while very nice over bumps, handles like crap.
