Ford's popular Focus builds on reputation for youth and value in New England
BOSTON, Nov. 3, 2000 - Ford's youth hit, the Focus, shares the limelight at the New England International Auto Show for its sophisticated new handling system and a lease package that reinforces its reputation as an affordable, fun car to drive.
"Focus raised the bar for the entire small car market in the U.S.," said Boston Regional Manager Richard Matheson. "With almost half of Focus' buyers 35 years old and younger, we're introducing Focus and Ford to a new generation of consumers."
Boston-area dealers are offering a special Red Carpet lease on the ZX3 three-door hatchback model that has proven particularly popular with young buyers. The 36-month lease for eligible Boston Region customers advertises a 2001 model ZX3 for $199 a month with $1,850 cash or trade due at signing. It includes a refundable security deposit and the first month's payment but excludes taxes and registration fees.
Highlighting the list of feature changes for 2001 is an optional interactive vehicle dynamics system designed to provide precise handling in adverse situations. The new AdvanceTrac™ system is available on the Focus ZTS sedan and ZX3. Rear disc brakes are standard when ordering AdvanceTrac™.
In addition, the SE Wagon now has a standard 2.0-liter double overhead cam Zetec I-4 engine and, for the first time, a manual transmission option.
Young buyers tend to be very style conscious, and Focus has a very contemporary look. Its "New Edge" design theme combines smooth aerodynamic surfaces with crisply intersecting lines. The look of Focus sets it apart from everything else on the road.
As contemporary as Focus looks, the design of the car also offers numerous practical advantages. One of the most significant design advantages of Focus is its overall height, which provides exceptional interior head room and excellent visibility. The construction for the wheel arches created more clearance between the body and the tire, allowing the wheels to be pushed outward, and making the car easy to get in and out of.
Focus also offers outstanding performance. A 2.0-liter single overhead cam four-cylinder engine is standard on LX and SE, and produces 110 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque. The Zetec engine delivers 130 horsepower and 135 lb.-ft. of torque, and is standard on ZX3, ZTS and Wagon, and optional on SE Sedan.
Starting in December, the third special-edition Focus will debut. The Street Edition will feature European-tuned suspension, black body kit, six-disc in-dash CD changer, special 16-inch wheels, a silver-masked instrument panel and European-patterned fabric on the sport bucket seats. Only 7,500 will be built.
