I did mine in different stages. First I sanded them, painted them with high heat engine paint (black). Then finished them with a high heat resistant clear coat that is specially for rims. It resist Brake dust, cleaners and solvants, High pressure washing, and nicks and scraps. I've had them that way for about 4yrs now.
