Can anyone tell me if this filter is too small for a 1.8 16v Zetec? It's K+N.

I think it's too small. The air velocity won't be as smooth as a wider filter.

And if you think that the dirt is from only 6-7 months of driving. :-))) Just like markko martin's off-road foci, right? ;-) Seriously, how can I wash the engine?I read that I should be VERY careful. Some manifacturers even prohibit washing it.The same article said that if you "dare" to wash your engine you should cover the electric parts VERY carefuly!

What looks pathetic, the filter or the dirt in my engine bay...or maybe both? :))

Dude... the filter at the end of the stock tube... like the guiness commercial says "brillient". But you should remove the air box completely. Would look cleaner. (other than that of the dirt). :-)
Larger cone filter wouldn't hurt, might look nicer too. You might be getting more air, but remember now you are sucking the air and dirt from under the hood.

*now you are sucking the air and dirt from under the hood* cpyder, if i buy/make a CAI, wont I suck more dirt than air away from "under the good"? ;)
I thought of removing the box, even tried...but it seems a bit hard, so I dont want to damage anything cause the resonator box looks kinda gentle.Btw, the engine bay is way cleaner now, cause I took my car on the first service (@ 6000kms) and they even cleaned my motor :))
P.S. - why with this configuration my engine has worse fuel economy than stock?

all u have to do to take the box out is that u have pull it out very firmly its held down by some clips or something dont worry it wont break anything.

dont be afraid to wash your engine. I spray mine down at the carwash like onece a month. just becareful not to spray directly onto any electronics or your filter, but just low pressure will take the dirt away.

I like how the dust in your engine bay accents the shorty intake. Sorry man. Had to say it. Looks good but I would have gone with the Aem CAI. Without a hood to throw air towards that thing it's just sucking hot air.

i have basically the same set up, except i have a bigger filter and my old air box is out. Where did u run the pcv valve tube off of the intake? If u dont have that ran back up to the tube itself that will possibly cause you to have poor gas milage. All i did was drill a hole in the stock tube and fit old pcv valve inside. Works great except i need to run a tube or something from my lower grill up to the filter to get more air
