Yes in 1 extreme case there was a member that saw as much as a low teens HP gain (IIRC, but also might have been due to poor initial timing). I think most see mid or high single digits when paired correctly and tune well.

How do think that I've made power? I went from 116whp to 133whp and gained a bunch of mid-range torque using,

Intake, Header, 2.5" exhaust all the way, adjustable cam gears(dyno tuned) and Toms tune.

Same, here had stock cam dyno tuned with the adj. cam gears. Similar results as above for me as well. If you want any more power than that though you'll have to throw some cams on it and up the compression.

Could someone please put it into perspective for him. He wants to know if it was worth it. How much did you pay to make the power you made on making stock cam adjustments?

Hypothetical here;

intake = $50-$200
Adj. Cam gears = $200
Header = $250-$360
Cat back Exhaust = $300 - $800
Toms Tune = $400+
Dyno time to dial in cams = $100-$400

That's $1200 for the cheaper parts, that's with no labour, and no other misc parts. You end up with 15-20 whp. Was it worth it? It might be for some, but maybe not for others.

If he does not already have the Cat Back, or the intake (Not talking about TB or intake manifold, you can get a SVT box and a K&N drop in filter). The Tune he needs regardless of which route he takes.

$400 for dyno time is crazy it should be no where that long unless he takes 1/2 the day.

Adjustable Cam Gears = $200 new (can sometimes get them used for about $150 on the FS board)
Dyno Time = $100-$150

Looking at under $400 to dyno tune in the stock cams. (assuming he already has everything else, as he should be before he even looks at cams at this point).

That's why I said $100 - $400 for a tune... Around here it's $175 just for an hr appointment. It's $500 a day for a scratch tune on a standalone EMS using the dyno and street. Prices vary!

Don't forget about the tuning hardware/software as well. That's another $400! So as long as he has every bolt on possible it will be $800 for 15-20hp... on stock cams. And in my opinion 90% of that is all the other bolt-on mods not the cam adjustment.

At that rate he would be better off to save the pennies and buy a set of cams and gears. If he already has all the supporting mods that you say he should. Then it's a no brainer to get a set of cams before he goes to the dyno and gets a tune!
