timing belt broke on me on the 134-170 interchange (traveleling 70ish MPH) .....thermostat housing cracked on me going from palmdale CA. to Hesperia CA on pearblossom highway (google it).... radiator inlet broke on me on 605 Freeway clylinder head temperature sensor went out on me on the 170 Freeway forcing my Focus into failsafe mode.
Fail safe mode: the computer shuts down two cylinders and uses both cylinders as heat pumps to prevent the block from cracking....thus allowing you to limp home....I drove at reduced speed for about 10 miles until I arrived home.

I figured there were those with more miles than mine, I only have 11 miles each way to work.

I don't want to jinx things, but it's been a damn reliable car. A few issues here and there, but thankfully nothing major.

- Fuel pump (the recall issue) at about 20K
- Broken rear coil spring (recall/TSB) ~50K
- Alternator went at ~80K
- First brake/clutch job ~154K
- Throttle cable snapped ~175K
- Upper radiator hose ~180K
- Muffler hanger rusted through ~200K (welded a new one on, muffler is fine)
- Passenger side rear wheel bearing ~210K
- Low speed resistor/plug for the cooling fan burned out twice in the last 15K. I believe it's related to low refrigerant and the compressor continually cycling. It's OK for now, having just topped it off. Will wait and see...

There are a couple of irritating things I need to address. There's a rattle coming from the undercarriage somewhere - I think it's another busted/rusted exhaust hanger, just haven't had time to get under there and look. Driver side window struggles to roll up once it hits the halfway point. Sometimes it dead-stops in the middle and I need to coax it up manually. Probably (over) due for shocks/struts, should likely do motor mounts, and I know I'm on borrowed time with the timing belt...

Oh yeah...I also busted 2 of those plastic/composite shifter bases.

You're lucky. Mine has 29,000 miles and the muffler is rusting apart at the welding seam. Isn't leaking yet, but I have a feeling it will be soon.

Update: Found (and stopped) the rattling. The fuel/return and brake lines that go the length of the car on the passenger side are held in place with little black plastic separators/holders. The fuel line had popped out of 2 of them and was banging on the underside of the floorboard, just under the front passenger seat. It snapped right back into place. Aaaahhh!! That was driving me NUTS!

The driver door window has all the symptoms of one or more of the channel/regulator clips being broken. I may order a set before I open it up..I hate messing with door panels and interior trim/clips.
