zetec bottom end help

I have a 2001 zx3 zetec and im upgrading the internals gettin ready for boost. I have a massive head and cometic head gasket but i need to do somethin with the bottom end. Looking for options and also never installed bottom end components before so im wondering if any machine work has to be done to the block when i switch pistons. What is the best compression for boost?? Thanks guys for ur help

There are a few threads that talk about zetec bottom ends. One, Stroker Kit Co-Op" is one that I'm watching

One post from Tom outlines the costs of a quality rebuild.... about $1,800. I believe Tom might sell quality rebuilt short blocks as well for not much more than this.

Not to hijack a thread, but how much will the Zetec block hold, power wise? I was always under the impression that for the high end numbers, you would need to look into a CGI block.

You pretty much MUST at least bore the block for new oversize pistons. Using standard size new pistons on a standard bore worn block is a mistake when looking for more performance.

No one answer to the compression question, the compression is based on what boost you will be running, the two are locked together. Less boost=more needed compression.

a built block in good condition with factory mains will take you to about 400-450 WHP to my understanding. if you want more then you need billet mains and can take you to 500+. a CGI block is more insurance. i belive there are many "stock" blocks doing 350+ HP on regular mains.

You do need good balancing, good bearings, H or I beam rods, and a good piston.

There are only a few options for pistons on the Zetec I would say go slightly lower compression. if you need to lower it further you can go with a different or if you want to rise it you can go with a slightly thinner head gasket. also you can raise the compression back up by decking the head. Dont worry to much about the compression, if your going FI then I would just go lower. dont think you can go to low and run into problems on the zetec unless you do some serious modifications.

another great thing to do is to view all the build threads out there and read through most of it and for those that are finished most people go to the dyno for tuning of the cams so can show you the numbers they are pushing.

remember the lower the compression the better for boost. I am running stock head with oem head gasket and je pistons and eagle rods with clevite bearings.
