I'm considering getting an ebay exhaust system. I have done the "search" section and could really read up on what I'm wanting to know. I'm considering buying this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/00-04-FORD-...ocus|Submodel:ZTS&hash=item4cff6ca8b3&vxp=mtr) exhaust system. Was wondering if anyone has been happy with similar ebay purchases?[scratch]
a 4.5" tip is a little excessive... but if that's your thing. My concern would be that all they talk about in the description is the titanium tip and not so much about the muffler. I would be worried about the sound it would also make it will most likely provide the higher "import" sound rather then that which Borla, Magnaflow, or Flowmaster.
The cost is good.. 150 with free shipping so $150 for CAT back is not to bad even if it just just gets used for pipe and you replace the muffler.
Yeah. I checked that seller feedback and it wasn't so good. But I literally found the same exhaust from a different seller for the same price. And he has a much higher positive rating.
As far as the sound, yeah, I figured it sound much more ricey but it will def be an improvement over the stock exhaust. And believe me, if it way too loud I will take it off. $150 is a good price and for the minimal HP gain I'd get from it should be alright until I can get a nicer exhaust.
btw, I seriously need to post a picture of my ZTS for my avatar. js
I basically have the same exhaust on my car and it actually sounds really nice. No ricey tone whatsoever. The tip is sorta big and might rub up against the bumper and melt it but its not terrible looking. Il try to post a vid clip of it.
LoL. Well I still ordered it but when you're done with that 3incher thrizzle let me know and I'll take it off your hands. Especially if you have other parts lying around I may need. Intake, headers, etc... The exhaust is my first performance mod sooo...
this has been talked about many times before... on some ebay exhaust the pipping is actually like 2.15'' and thin in material, weldings are crap even though they look nice, exhaust muffler is crap = no name brand prob from china, flanges will prob leak... expect rust or braking 1-2 years after installing...
I'm not planning to keep this exhaust for long. Just something to tie me over for now. That's why I asked. I was looking at the magnaflow and steeda but as long as this one can get me until about winter i'll be pleased.
Is there anything wrong with the exhaust that you have right now? If nothing is wrong with it why bother replacing it with this aftermarket exhaust? Why not save your money now and buy something that you know about the quality aspect at least. This exhaust looks good in the picture but when you get it in your hands it is more than likely going to look a little different. I would like to see pictures of this when you get it in. Most of the cheaper exhausts sold on Ebay are made of T304 stainless but the piping is so thin. It's done that way so they can sell it cheaper. The welds and flanges are more than likely made of a really cheap mild steel which would cause them to rust really quickly and more than likely cause more problems in a short period of time. A lot of times the flanges don't line up properly, which means more work to have to get it on there. But if you are only going to have it on there for a short period of time, it is your choice. We are not trying to tell you that you are wrong but only trying to guide you in the right direction so you don't end up having to spend more money than needed to have the same exact results and item.
I know and I appreciate it. It's kinda why I made this post to begin with. I did a few searching on aftermarket ebay exhausts and couldn't really get an answer I was looking for. Mainly, if anyone has a similar or the exact exhaust and their experiences with it. Not trying to be cheap but my current exhaust is the original (remind you, I own a 2000 ZTS) and is rusting. Not to mention, it is an eyesore. So yeah, I admit I'm trying to get something a little nicer while gaining something (if possible). After this exhaust I'm gonna head on to the intake, throttle body, etc. Which I have been searching and reading up on. All the talk on the short air intake to cold air intake is mind boggling. No real answer on which direction to go with those so I may end up going short with a custom heat shield. I have zero done to the performance of the car and right now it just deciding where to go with this.
I'm sure I made a mistake by ordering the eBay'r. Only thing now is hoping it lines up so I can get some kind of use out of it. Mistake learned. Thanks guys.
I'm going to disagree a little. Granted, I have had the good ol' MBRP flexback on my focus for going on 5 years, but I have installed several ebay catbacks for people and they have been of suprising quality. Usually just made by exhaust shops looking for some extra income. Just know that if the ad says stainless the flanges probably arent, just the piping. And if an ebay ad doesnt answer a question about the product, its probably a bad answer.
I had the chance to get it installed this past friday and I'm actually happy with it's sound. Nice and throaty. When you're at a stop you can barely hear it. Since it's my first performance upgrade I can't really feel a power gain. The kit came in three part and the end what the exhaust tip is needed to be re-done. It was NOT a direct bolt on. Aside from having to wait three-four hrs to get my car back I was VERY happy with it's out come. This weekend I'll be install my SVT header setup. Woop
the catback came in three parts. the first two pipes coming off the flex/cat looked as if they wouldnt bolt up but actually ended up fitting. it was the final section that i had to have refitted. was a bummer but am HIGHLY pleased with it's sound. i don't say too much about the performance because, well, i can't really feel any since it's my only performance mod as of right now. doesn't have a ricer sounds. it's very deep and throaty and not loud at all.
so was it a bend that was off, a hanger location, distance to bumper?
i ask because i would consider using this pipe as well but if a bends off i'm going to have to have work done any ways... hanger location thats a spot weld i'm ok with that.. distance to bumper i'm going to chop that tip off any ways.
it was an issue w it's bends. they chopped the flanges to weld the last two sections together. made an all new final section with better bends and angles. chopped the tip and welded it to the new pipe. cost me an additional $160 but it's muuuuuch quieter then the magnaflow. i would have spent the extra on the magnaflow but i was impatient and kinda happy i didn't. the real test for this exhaust is gonna be this winter with the salt n stuff. cleveland cops are pricks when it comes to loud exhausts so that's why im happy with my purchase.
thanks, i'm out then if i tried to weld a new section in id probably burn my house down and have an exhuast leak.
