225/45r18

Has anybody went with 225/45R18 instead of the typical 235/40? Looking at the numbers the 225/45 will be slightly taller overall than my OEM 215/50R17's whereas the 235/40 is slightly shorter overall(more revs per mile).

I was just curious if anybody else has tried this as I think that's what I'm going to buy when I pull the trigger on my wheels.

If somebody does, do you have a pic of what that looks like? Thanks!

Depends on what you want; 235/45/17 (and what I run) is OEM height/diameter (compared to 215/50/17s). I'd prefer the little bit of extra grip with the width, but then again, tire section sizes vary within the same advertised sizes.

If you're catching a deal on a package, probably not bad.

You know what brand you're getting. That will make a difference too. Different brands of the same size run bigger than others. I know that bfg run bigger than most tires.

I asked because both are approved to run on an 8 inch wide wheel.

Some 215/50R17's are approved to run on 8 inch wheels as well.

I don't know yet but that's good to know. I'll make sure to keep an eye on the actual tire dimensions as well rather than just the "size".
