I want a Baja Focus

Anyone remeber the Baja bug? Take an old VW and strap on some beefy tires and a little lift, then go have some fun?

I was inspired the other day while i was washing my car... I wanna build a Baja Focus! I live in a rural area and love tooling down old roads and getting lost, just for the fun of it.
Now here is the problem I am not the engineer or mechanic I wish that I was. (who is?)
I was thinking of stating with bigger springs and some better shocks/struts. I am not going to be jumping dunes or anything. I do want to cross streams and travel on some jeep trails.
I just need ideas ect. I can't get tires and wheels so I need help there and I am not familiar enough with the suspension linkage to understand what problem I am looking forward to. I am looking for some technical knowhow for this project... any help would be apreciated!
Oh and feel free to laugh at my pitifull atempts at photchoping in paintbrush... It's just a concept sketch.

In this sketch I was just playing around, it does not nessecarily reresent what the final project will look like...

I love the idea man! first, I'd go talk to some off road experts and see if there is any halfway easy wasy to lift the car up.

seems like something they'd do on monster garage....

Look around for some springs to lift it or you could do probably get some huge bags for it that are used for a truck and get someone to fab up some mounts, or do what i see a lot of people do with camaro's and impala's, and just throw like 22's on em and that raises em up there to.

SCC tried something similar, building a rally focus:
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...lly/index.html

Basically the rear suspension is the hard part. It's the best design for street, but because of the complex multilink design it's impossible to get coilovers in there (the easiest way to lift a street car).

try it...it would be expensive considering the fact that there are no aftermarket parts to support this transformation. good luck cuz i wanna see a baja focus!

I am not trying to emulate the rally focus... I want a "redneck" focus so-to-speak. I won't be the fastest but it will be original.

Anyone out there an expert on the focus's suspension, not the addition of springs but the linkages ect...? I need some help diagraming the suspension geometry...
this is going to be a long project, but i think rewarding.
