Question about offset

I'm looking in to getting new rims on my ZX3 and was wondering about offsets. I have narrowed th styles down to 2. One choice is 17x7 with +40mm offset and the other is 17x7.5 with +42mm offset. I noticed on the SVT wheels that they are 17x7 with +49mm offset. Why does the SVT have such a huge offset? Will the 17x7.5 +42mm with 215/40-17's work without any rubbing. Suspension is stock right now and whichever suspension kit I get will accomodate the tire and wheel package I choose.

I'm assuming since the brakes are bigger on the SVT, they use a larger offset. If you have a PZEV, going with the 42mm shouldnt give you any problems with aftermarket suspensions.

Thanx, I've pretty much decided on the 17x7.5's and a Tein Super Street coilover setup.
