Paint peeling off SES rims

Anybody else having the paint peel off their rims? I have an '11 SES with the nice factory rims and the paint is peeling off of them, especially towards the center. As I have 45k miles on it, there's no taking it to the dealer for warranty. Just curious if there is anything I can do to help. I've detailed the car myself since day one(bought it new with 3 miles on the odo) so no carwashes, or any harsh chemicals, just meguiar's car wash and a wash mitt.

I believe there is nothing you can do, just shitty paint used by Ford. Mine look the same.

Working in a body shop, there was a HORRIBLE clear coat that came out in the 2009-2010 time that is just awful and does not hold up. Thats why you see newer cars with peeling paint, there is no stopping it. Luckily they switched clears after the issue became apparent.

EDIT: Nice twin BTW (our cars)

I've had 2 sets of these rims, one set on my 08, and the current set on my 11... All of them are peeling.

Hello all,

Let me know if you decide to go to your Ford Dealer and I'll look into possible options.

What can our options be, especially mine being an 09.

Thank you for a quick and helpful response! Have a wonderful day.

Only option is to powdercoat or replace wheel and see how long the new one lasts.

Yeah, took it to a local body shop and had never seen anything like it either. Lethal combination of crap paint, crap prep, and crap QC.

You can go back and forth with Ford all you want like I did, but this is what you'll end up doing. They care about "customer good will" and "maybe splitting costs" until they hear the wheels are $560 a piece and never call you back. Powder coating or refinishing is a long term fix, probably $80-120 a wheel depending on the shop. Plastidip will have you refreshing it every 3 years but can be done for about $60 and looks good if you prep and do it right.

I always just planned on waiting until it all flaked off, sanding, gun metal duplicolor wheel coating and clear them myself

I am doing the temporary fix on mine until I can really spend time on them. I think I will end up sand blasting them and doing a silver with some bronze tint to it.

I've got Ford ESP on my car, since it covers defects in workmanship, will it cover that?
