Hi SlickWilly and ThaKillerKlown,

It's possible for me to loop in your regional customer service manager, who can discuss this concern (and answer ESP questions) with you and your dealer. If this is something you're interested in, please PM your fall name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and contact info.

Todd

I see you have a 2011, so by now you're definitely out of the 3yr/36k mile warranty under which they would replace them. There is no way the dealer would do this for free, it's a cosmetic issue, not a safety/functionality issue.

While this thread is revived, mine are also peeling (2010 SES). Had them re-done last summer and they've started peeling again. They were done correctly, all old paint came off, resurfaced, and repainted. They've been peeling again so I had them re-done under the wheel guy's warranty and what he told me was upsetting. He had them examined, said this is a problem with the metal corroding/eating away at the paint from underneath, and unless he sent them out for heavier blasting and more re-conditioning (which is a couple hundred dollars) they are going to start peeling again. He said he's never seen this on Ford rims, but see's it constantly on Honda and Toyota rims. Looks like I'll be buying some Fiesta ST rims for summer and using these in winter.

I think I want to buy the Ford Racing 15 spoke rims. Does anyone else have this issue with those rims? Im going to Plastidip these black after I media blast them, and then just get the graphite Ford Racing rims.

Let me rephrase- Im going to plasti dip the STOCK rims.

Ive not seen any of the Ford Racing wheels do this, seems isolated to the SES wheels. There have been many sets pop up for sale over the years of EAP wheels and i dont think any of them had an issue with the paint coming off

The 2nd gen 17" SES wheels were a different type of paint finish compared to the EAP and Ford Racing wheels in the same style. I like the SES wheels the best, but I think that Ford should have thought a bit more about how they were finishing the wheels. Mine are completely trashed by this point.

My wife's 2011 SES sedan is 4 years old with 87,000 miles and has been thru winters in my area of NW NJ where salt is on the road for 4 months over the season. I just cleaned it up over the weekend and the wheels are perfect. No issues at all. I do have the darker argent EAP wheels 17 inch on my 2002 ZX5 for the last 8 years and same thing no issues at all and the wheels are in great shape. I do like the look of the SES wheels better but both have been excellent on my Focuses. My 2011 SES was a late build just before the new 2012 Focus design came out so its possible the problem was found with the SES wheels and resolved.
