05 st low pro?

ordering new tires for my 05 st and am looking at 205/40/16s instead of the 205/50/16s that come stock to make some room just wondering if this is a safe alternative/choice good fit? lowered on coilovers if it makes a difference thanks

use a tire calculator like this to get an idea of the size difference
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

your spedometer will end up reading slow by several mph...also less choices in tires. Going with a 45 series will be less drastic. How much room do you need, how low are you right now?

right now im tucking the 205/50s between 1/4 and 1/2 up front but plan on going lower with smaller tires and out back the coils are spun all the way down but I plan to remove the locking collars and installing spacers with a smaller tire. the reason I was looking at 205/40s over 205/45s is simply the price difference I can get a full set of kumho 205/40s shipped to my door for 380 as opposed to nearly 120 a tire for 45s

Smaller tire = speedo reads faster

Other than that, 40's will work just fine. I've run them for 10+ years now.
And I picked them for the same reason you found, price.
