Getting tires off the car

So I own a 2002 red focus se. I have done some tinkering with it in means of plastidip. I was going to take the tire/rim off the car to get all the nooks and crannies. Here is the problem. The hubcap I guess you could call it won't come off. I have the allen wrench that fits but when I go to turn it just cracks the them. Am I going about this wrong? Is there a different tool I need to use instead? Thanks in advance

on the split 5, 15" wheels, those are fake allens. What you need is a big screw driver or pry bar in the little "indented side of the center cap. give it a little bump, and it should start to pop off. The tabs on the back may be brittle due to age, so be careful.

Edit:
here is a good pic of the back side of one. The little indent is on the right hand side of the pic.

Ha, it would only happen to me. I figured that indent had something to do with it. I just want prying hard enough thinking I had to unscrew those alleys. I appreciate it.

lol, the fake out

BLRich's picture shows it really well... just a metal ring with tabs holds it on, happy prying.

once the lugs are off, if the wheel doesnt pop right off, dont be affraid to give a little kick with the back of your foot.

Key word here being BACK of foot, and please aim for the tire, not the wheel. It's not a good feeling when it's on there really good and the thing doesn't move.....
