Wheels for 2012 with Titanium package

Hey guys,

I was wondering what type of wheels to get. I live in Canada and we get a lot of snow/ice here in the winters. The car I purchases came with 18 tires but on the sticker it says summer only. Does that mean that I cannot and should not use them in winter? Secondly. What would be better? All season tires or straight up winter tires? I'm mainly concerned about cost. Some quick googling showed tires popping up at 200+ just for 1! And what is this I hear about rims? The ones on the Focus fit 18 inch tires. But smaller tires are cheaper and better for winter, right? So if I buy let's say 16's. Do I also have to buy 16 inch rims?!

I have a 2011 ses and the wheels are 17s and the tires are thin, like yours. They were actually really good in the snow. But what I would suggest for you is to get cheap steelie wheels and some good winter tires and KEEP your current setup for the summer/spring/fall season.

That's the route I'm considering. because 18 inch wheels would utterly kill my wallet. But the steelies are around $50 for the wheels(So $200) and the tires are around $400 for a good set. So I'd be looking at around $600 for just winter gear. I'm going to assume that the Ford dealership would have to install them though? :S That's probably not cheap, huh?

You could have most shops install them, once the wheel is on the tire and mounted, you could even do it yourself.

This is my first car, so I'm really nervous about a lot of things. Ford won't attack me for doing that?

Well say you order from belle tire or discount tire, they'll mount them for free or just add it in with the cost of what you bought. From my experiences if you purchase there items they'll do maintaince and things like that for free or at a discounted price.

I would say to get a set of 15/16" steelies with a set of Blizzaks as your dedicate winter wheels. Don't add TPMS if you want to keep your budget down-all you'll get is a message and maybe a light. When the temperature settles at around 50° (whatever that is in celsius), then swap them in and run them until temps settle around there on the way back up. You will be safer year-round than if you just had one set of all-seasons.

Nah, it's like if you replace a tire at some tire shop instead of the dealership.

Cool! Thanks guys! You're all so very awesome. I love the patience you guys have with me, haha. I'll get a set of 15 steelies with Blizzaks and have the dealership install them then. Thank you very much again!
