Larger tire

I'd like a little more tread on the road and maybe an inch more height so I don't scrape the front end on parking barriers. I have the skinny 15's on my S, I wonder if I can go a size bigger.

Don't change the overall circumference of your tires, if you change it too much it'll mess with your car.

Use this tool to play around with sizes:

Go to the Tire Rack and run the configurator...it will give you the proper sizes for 16/17/18" wheels.

The problem with this (by what the OP is looking for) is that it will give the proper size tire for maintaining stock circumference. The op wants to actually make the car sit higher.

While you can put a higher aspect ratio tire on the wheel, you will throw off the calibration of the speedometer, make the engine/drivetrain work harder, and end up with a funky look. Tire Rack shows your OE size tire as a 195/65-15. For a taller tire, you would need a 195/70-15 or a wider tire to get a higher aspect ratio. The additional 5% aspect ratio would give you an additional 9.75 mm on the 195 width tire, or .38 inches. To go higher than that, you would have to go to a wider tire and figure out the aspect ratio that gives you the increase in height you are looking for.

While it is not generally advisable, it is your car. I don't believe (and could be wrong) that there is an ability to change the calibration for the speedometer. If there isn't, then you would need to figure out how far it is off and adjust mentally.

My advice would be to park farther away from the barriers. If your car (at stock height) is scraping them, they aren't designed to be parked over.

Hope that helps some.

Yes there is, just get a handheld tuner like an X-Cal 2 or 3 from SCT or similar from other manufacturers. When you load the tune there is an option to change parameters like gear ratio, tire size, shift points, etc.

Superchips also makes one that changes tire size only and they run around 2 bills.

Do you have a link? The last I knew there was no tuner available for the '12's.

There are no "canned" tuners out for the 12's yet, but you can always have custom tunes written specifically for your car.

Canned tunes are what the industry calls generic one size fits all tunes, AFIK no one has written one for the 12's. Custom on the other hand is written just for your car and the mods you have done and is locked to your computers unique ID code so it can't be used on any other car, even if its the same model and has the exact same mods done.

That's what I'm saying-no one has cracked the ECU yet. We can't even get custom tunes for our cars. Seems kinda odd, but here we are (over a year past the initial release) and none of the pro's have anything but a bunch of deflecting statements and bad attitudes...
