Can i fit 245/40 tires on my SE?

I got some new 18 inch wheels the other day and have a set of 245/40 18's in the garage i could use. instead of buying the titanium stock size of 235/40. does anybody else have over sized tires? just want to know if i can save some money and not buy 235/40's.

The problem is if you oversize tire, its gonna change the speed shown on the speedometer, what you risk is going faster than the speed shown on the speedometer, + you risk to make the tire scratch on the body when you do a tight turn since the tire are larger and got a bigger diameter, So my guess for you would be = dont put them and go buy the real size instead if you wanna save yourself problems.

Did you already burn through the PS3's or are you just planning ahead?

i used the tire size calculator to determine that the difference in mph would only be .7 mph at 60 mph...so not that big of a deal.

just worried about rubbing and scratching the body
I guess i'll have to be the guinea pig haha.

A decent test mount should tell you. I run a 205/55-16 on my 2005, when 205/50-16 is stock. I have no issues. Not wider but a taller tire.

Since you have an SE, you don't have the steering rack restrictors that come with the Titanium Handling package - so you are increasing the risk of rubbing at lock.

There is some allowable overlap in size between a 235/40 and a 245/40. You'd have to measure your particular tire vs. a stock 18" to see how they actually compare.

You'd probably be fine, except at lock, but get ready to bend over and kiss your MPG goodbye. Rolling resistance seems to be this cars nemesis.
